This afternoon's listening

celeste2.jpg

My copy of that is fairly crackly (hard to tell if it's the pressing or just life in somewhere gross - the vinyl is probably VG++). Good record that I would like to get a clean copy of.

Mine's fairly crackly even after a good clean up whilst the vinyl looks good. Seller had graded NM and i got a hefty discount so can live with it

Hmmm...now I'm curious about my copy which I have not played in maybe 10 years or more...I'll try to dig it out tonight and play it to check my pressing...

This reminds me of another great Pilz album called "Jamabiko" with Itaru Oki...if memory serves correctly this title is a bit more straightforward then "Celeste" but really great nonetheless

Gene Clark - Here Tonight (The White Light Demos) (Omnivore). A Black Friday Record Store Day release. Mellow folk-rock with a Dylanesque sound. It's good enough to play again but I wouldn't want a whole bunch of this type of stuff in my collection.

Yeah, Jamabiko is good. I used to have a copy of that one; unfortunately, it had a scratch on one track and didn't stay in the collection.

Now:

Ted Curson - Tears for Dolphy - (Fontana NL stereo)

I just played my copy of "celeste" and it's super quiet...just heard two isolated pops during the entire record. However I'm all too familiar with records that look NM but are noisy...have a few of those myself..very annoying! And it can be costly too...I've posted on this before but I don't want to think about the money I've wasted buying multiple copies of Noah Howard's "space dimension" until i finally realized the entire pressing run must be f%#ed!

totally sktech! sounds like 1940. actually 1970. heres something that suprised me......julian priester's in the band on trombone! and a few short months later he'll joining MWANDISHI. scored both volumes of this, audience recording from vancouver. huge duke resources online it turns out, was reading up on it and some lady mentioned in a comment that she mentioned the existence of this lp to duke, duke got furious, and said to send it to stanley dance cause stanley was compiling info on all the duke boots for duke ellington.

Andrea Centazzo "Ictus" (pdu, Italy)

John Coltrane "Blue Train" (blue note, 47 w 63rd mono)...a bit crackly but serviceable early pressing of this classic

Anthony Williams "Spring" (blue note, liberty)...a good sounding liberty pressing...I've always liked this record...a stellar lineup with Gary Peacock, Sam Rivers, Wayne Shorter, and Herbie Hancock..incredible!

Kenny Wheeler "The Widow in the Window" (ECM, Germany)...last one....a classic...love this band

Ian Carr/Don Rendell Quintet 'Live At The Union' (Stamford Audio 2LP)

The tape of this one aparently was found under Ian Carr's bed - location recording in the UCL Student Union bar. Not the greatest sound quality but wonderful that it survived nevertheless.
