chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted November 23, 2013 Report Posted November 23, 2013 Well, I don't always post what I'm listening to, but this morning it was: Duke Pearson - It Could Only Happen with You (BN UA) absolutely amazing sound quality on this lp, this is up there in my very very top blue notes from a sound perspective. It Could Only Happen With You, Along Came John...etc Quote

jeffcrom Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Mary Lou Williams - First Lady of the Piano (Inner City). Ms. Williams was not happy during her stay in England, but you can't tell by listening to this excellent session. Quote
jeffcrom Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Modern Jazz Piano: Four Views (RCA Camden). A 1957 collection, with Mary Lou Williams, Erroll Garner, Lennie Tristano, and Art Tatum; it has several tracks I don't have anywhere else. Quote

jeffcrom Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Sidney Bechet/Martial Solal - When a Soprano Meets a Piano (Inner City). It hit me this evening that I hadn't listened to any Bechet for awhile, and suddenly the need to hear some was strong and immediate - almost physical. Quote

Clunky Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Barry Harris ----- Chasin' the Bird---------(Riverside) stereo original - very fine session and the Riverside pressing good enough.. next. Archie Shepp------The Magic of Ju-ju---------(Impulse UK) 1968 UK stereo edition, Shepp's Impulses are all very strong. I don't see this one getting much love but it's a good date Lee Konitz, Leo Wright, Pony Poindexter, Phil Woods, The Alto Summit (Prestige/MPS). I was a bit underwhelmed by this date, seemed a bit of mess IIRC but it's been a while since I heard it. Quote

Clunky Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Bud Shank---------Windmills of your mind-------(Liberty) Very fine Shank session from late 60s. If Mosaic were still doing Selects then Shanks' Pacific/Liberty albums would make great and surprisingly set. Quote
Leeway Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Was reading the thread here on the board about the new BN LT CD reissues (already seemed to have disappeared from the usual sources) and thought I'd give one of the original LPs from that series a spin. I think I have most of them but would be curious to compare one of the CD reissues to the LP. This one has fluff-less liner notes from our own Larry Kart. Jackie McLean - CONSEQUENCE Quote
Clunky Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Sonny Rollins ---------Now's the time---------(RCA) UK mono A bit of backwards step here but strong none the less. Quote
