:tup:tup Do you know I don't think I've ever played the one after the other which is weird. Maybe I will next time

I'm not usually so orderly, but these LPs were from the same session, which I think is a seminal one for Dixon. BTW, each LP has an extensive LP sized insert containing a valuable interview with Dixon. Don't know if it came with the CD.

Now playing: Innovation" by Amalgam. Tangent LP. Trevor Watts, John Stevens, Kent Carter, Lindsay Cooper, Keith Tippett, Terri Quaye. I'm a fervent John Stevens fan, as well as Trevor Watts.

Buddy Rich------The Driver------(Philips International ) UK

mid seventies pressing of this 1960 date originally issued on Mercury in 1965. This was on the Mosaic under Rich's name. I've had a number of tracks on a CD compilation (Compact Jazz) for many years and always admired this small group effort. Rich isn't overbearing and Seldon Powell is on tenor.

Nippon Gagaku Kai - Gagaku: Ancient Japanese Court Music (Everest). Gagaku is reputedly the oldest more-or-less-unchanged musical tradition in the world. I had never heard of "the music of a thousand autumns" until I visited Kyoto in 2006. On that trip I heard three performances of gagaku, or rather, two performances and a rehearsal. The rehearsal was the most memorable. My wife and I visited Atawa Shrine at dusk, and were looking around the grounds when a gagaku ensemble started rehearsing inside the building. We sat on a bench as it got darker and darker, with this ancient music filling the courtyard.

Back to East Coast. New York Art Quartet. Get Back LP. I would love to have their MOHAWK LP on Fontana.

Has anyone had a chance to check out the Triplepoint 5LP box of the NYAQ? Or better, does anyone own it?

It's discussed a bit here:

Clifford's review here:

Thanks! I ran a search here but of course failed to turn it up :winky: .

I'd love to have the box but that price is the hurdle. Ditto the Cecil album. If NYAQ was $75 cheaper I would have bought it already, but this seems like jumping the shark. Anyway, not absolutely closing the door.

Now playing:

GAP "s/t" (Alm, Japan)

Shankar "M.R.C.S." (ECM, Germany)..interesting session featuring one of my favorite drummers, Jon Christensen, with Indian musicians

and next:

Eric Dolphy "Live at the Five Spot vol.1" (Prestige, Japan)..looking forward to hearing how this compares with my 70s Prestige USA 3 LP box ("The Great Concert of Eric Dolphy") in terms of sound/pressing quality...
