chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 its like a boogaloo type thing, this is way different than i thought rhoda scott would sound like. i dont think all her stuff was like this, i thought she was more straight ahead. my copy i just got suffers from glue issues, side 1 label is gone with no trace and side 2 is 90% falling off. interestingly enough both sides are vangelder stamped! so Tru-sound was a subsidary of prestige?? but it didnt say so on the records? It did on the LPs; well, it gave the Prestige address, which is all I think any of the other labels did. I believe Tru-sound was Ozzie Cadena's idea. He produced the two Rhoda Scott LPs and all (I think) of the Gospel series. Dunno about the Latin series. Here's a link to the Tru-sound discography http://www.bsnpubs.com/new/trusound.pdf MG Quote

Leeway Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 from Shepp to Shorter, so now Alan Shorter - Parabolic [Verve] Do you know I don't think I've ever played the one after the other which is weird. Maybe I will next time I'm not usually so orderly, but these LPs were from the same session, which I think is a seminal one for Dixon. BTW, each LP has an extensive LP sized insert containing a valuable interview with Dixon. Don't know if it came with the CD. Now playing: Innovation" by Amalgam. Tangent LP. Trevor Watts, John Stevens, Kent Carter, Lindsay Cooper, Keith Tippett, Terri Quaye. I'm a fervent John Stevens fan, as well as Trevor Watts. Quote
Clunky Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Buddy Rich------The Driver------(Philips International ) UK mid seventies pressing of this 1960 date originally issued on Mercury in 1965. This was on the Mosaic under Rich's name. I've had a number of tracks on a CD compilation (Compact Jazz) for many years and always admired this small group effort. Rich isn't overbearing and Seldon Powell is on tenor. Quote
