Davis' Agharta, white label Columbia promotional copy.

Am I the only one here who love electric Miles?

There's at least 2 of us. I even like the later stuff ( ). I'll put on the Japanese Sony 'Agharta' 2LP later tonight for relaxing pre-bedtime listening with my hot chocolate ( :D ). Sonny Fortune absolutely smokes on side 1.

Agreed. And I am so bizarre that I even love the hum and the buzz of that Marshall tube amplifiers

Maybe it depends on my musical first love: Frank Zappa.

For me is really hard to listen to early jazz, I own several records of Armstrong, Basie, Duke, ecc.., but every time I have to put on an LP I always go for modern stuff.

On the other hand, I tend, as you probably surmise if you read what I listen to, lean toward very early jazz. I love Dixieland, Ellington, Basie, Ella, Wild Bill Davison, Teagarden, Pee Wee Russell, Muggsy Spanier and have to re-adjust my ears to appreciate the artists who picked up the gauntlet after them.

BUT that doesn't mean that I refuse to listen to more modern jazz. All have their charm.

"bird" is free - Charlie Parker on the Esquire label. Live recording from 1950-'51

Clifford Brown Ensemble featuring Zoot Sims. 10" LP recorded in, I think, 1954. It's on an English label, "Vogue".

So now on the TT, Mosaic's In A Silent Way, disc 2.

I wish a Mosaic Jack Johnson on vinyl  :excited:

Could never work out why the guys at Mosaic didn't put that one out on vinyl. They jumped straight from BB to the Blackhawk set, for some reason.

Ahmad Jamal's Club Alahambra, on Argo. Occasional pops and crackles, but this is a truly beautiful recording (sonically and performance-wise).

Yes, those deep groove Argos can sound pretty nice. I'm similarly impressed with the original Ramsey Lewis 'In Crowd'. Can be had for not too much money too, usually.

(World Pacific strobophonic)

:huh::rfr

That's what the cover (front and back) says.

1958 back cover note:

'TECHNICAL DATA'

This is a Strobophonic High Fidelity recording with a frequency response of 30 to 15,000 cycles per second. Users of wide range equipment should employ the RIAA or NAARTB curve position.

Sounds stereo to me!

Beautiful cover shot of the three leaders by the great Lee Friedlander!

The Complete Johnny Dodds (Black & White, French RCA)

A superb twofer with all 31 sides (including various alternates) from the various sessions Johnny Dodds recorded for Victor :tup

I bow to your bargain-finding ability, Alfred. My all-time low is 99cents for a JazzTone at a yard sale.

Spinning now, "The Best Of The Stan Freberg Show" 2 record set.
