jeffcrom Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 (edited) John Wright - Nice 'n' Tasty (Prestige/Status mono). Prestige front cover, Status back cover (battered), Status labels, RVG stamp. Whatever it is, the music is very nice. And recorded on my second birthday. Ah, yes - that was a good year. Jim, I can't see the pictures in a lot of your posts, like the last one. Edited September 26, 2013 by jeffcrom Quote

JSngry Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 Did not know that. But on the whole, I'd rather go to the AACM. I mean, it's nice that it's composed and all, but geez...gongs and motifs and such..on its own terms, very enjoyable, engaging, even, but...not very efficient, really. Cost/benefit ratio is skewed negatively, and I don't mean financially. It's like, ok, here you are, now....stay here. Perhaps the then-newnesss of the piece was an impediment to a really "engaged" performance, but, again...AACM. All that and more, and in "real time", no less. It's a bigger "here", AACM (and/or et al/etc) at least relative to where I enjoy my "here" being. More room. And that's all I've got to say about that. Quote
jeffcrom Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 Okeh Chicago Blues (Epic). Disc two - on which the main attraction is the fabulous, previously-unreleased 1946 debut session by Johnny Shines. He's playing acoustic guitar, with a second guitar (possibly Bill Broonzy) and drums, and put down four intense performances that didn't see the light of day for over 35 years. Quote
JohnS Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 Sahib Shihab - All-Star Sextets (Savoy twofer) I've been meaning to pull this outand give it a spin for some time. A nicely produced twofer from the golden age of twofers. Thanks for the prompt Jeff. Now Quote
