The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 Jimmy Ponder -------White Room-------(Impulse) variable success on this one. Some decent tracks but also some lame material too. True. Also true of his other Impulse LP, 'Illusions'. Not true of this one, which I'm now playing, though, produced by Bob Porter, with Mickey Tucker, Jimmy Ponder - Down here on the ground - Milestone (Jimmy's 2 Milestone albums never came out on CD) MG Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 Dunno why this wasn't included in the quintets/sextets Mosaic box; it's better than any of the ones in that box. Stanley Turrentine - Z T's blues - BN (DMM) With Grant Green, Tommy Flanagan, Paul Chambers & Art Taylor. next Jimmy McGriff - City lights - JAM MG Quote

clifford_thornton Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 Bought my copy of Rufus at Academy in the Village years ago. I think it was $50, which didn't seem bad for a clean Dutch original. Bought Touching in the field as well, in Paris. Both about a dozen years ago; I don't know whether that would happen these days. sidewinder Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 (edited) I think my 'Rufus' was around £40. Mint copy though.. Edited September 22, 2013 by sidewinder Quote

Sold my vinyl copies of 'Rufus', 'Mohawk' & 'The New York Contemporary Five' (all Dutch pressings) when I found CD copies of each in a record shop in Manchester. I've always loved this albums and still play them regularly.....the CD versions, that is. Quote

paul secor Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 I've never been moved by this record. I don't know whether the problem is Mickey Roker (probably), Joe Pass (very possibly), the safe repertoire (possibly), or me (again possibly). Quote

Homefromtheforest Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Got a new amplifier today(well a late 70s vintage beast that weighs a ton but sounds amazing) and these records got played to test it out: Michael Garrick "prelude to heart is a lotus" (gearbox) ...excellent sound, music, and performance...what a great album! Masabumi Kikuchi "end for the beginning" (Philips, Japan) Henri Texier "Paris-batignolles" (label bleu, France) Quote
sidewinder Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Michael Garrick "prelude to heart is a lotus" (gearbox) ...excellent sound, music, and performance...what a great album! Really must get hold of that one. I got this very same LP in a shop years ago for $2 mint. Still haven't felt motivated to play it. I should put it on tomorrow. Those were the days. I think my copy was unplayed too - picked it up along with a mono Duke Pearson 'Sweet Honey Bee' in similar shape. According to Honest Jon's they had been sitting in a US store-room for about 30 years. Quote
