clifford_thornton Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 I'll keep my eye out and a span of ducats in my wallet for that Djanger Bali LP. 't ain't cheap! Yeah, Parabolic is the UK version of Orgasm, released in 1969 with a cover image by Jacques Bisceglia. Quote
JohnS Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Original UK cover. I'll pull out for a play later Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Yeah, I always liked the look of it. The US Verve looks cool too but I decided one copy was enough. Quote
kh1958 Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Ornette Coleman, Ornette! (Atlantic mono). An insert card says you get a free copy of Ornette! with your subscription to downbeat. Quote
Clunky Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Joseph Jarman--------Song For-----------(Delmark) stereo copy , cover green/ red Bought at a local record fair this weekend. Interesting date with some curious spoken parts. I'll need to listen closely but seem quite self conscious if somewhat contrived. I'm not surprised that this'll need further listening. I'm unclear whether the green/red cover I have or the B&W cover is the original. What ever, this copy has clearly been cosseted over the years. Another one to thank Chuck a.o for expanding the music. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Green/red cover is first. Absolutely love this record, ragged as it may be in parts. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 Sadao Watanabe "s/t" (Sony, Japan) a slightly uneven but actually pretty amazing/surprising album featuring Masayuki Takayanagi on guitar! Steve Lacy "solo at mandara" (ALM, Japan) Harry Whitaker "black renaissance" (baystate, Japan). Woody Shaw is phenomenal on this date... Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 And one more...a nice mellow end to a good listening session: Mal Waldron/Jackie McLean "like old times" (RCA, Japan) a very beautiful 1976 session from two giants with Isao Suzuki on bass and Billy Higgins on drums Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 Nice score on the Lacy ALM. I've heard it - never owned it - and it's excellent. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 Yeah the Lacy was a recent score..and with the OBI too! It is a great solo record... Quote

brownie Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Benny Goodman & All Stars (Jazzum 57) broadcasts from 1949 when Wardell Gray - and various interesting musicians including Doug Mettome, Nick Travis, Eddie Bert and others - were in the BG band! (could not find an image) Quote
Head Man Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Anyone know where this was taken? It looks like Booker is trying to leave a hotel without paying. Quote
Head Man Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Billy Bang Quintet: Rainbow Gladiator (Soul Note) Anyone know whether Michele Rosewoman is still playing/recording? Her website hasn't been updated for nearly a year now. Quote
Clunky Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Beach Boys -----------Pet Sounds------------( Capitol) UK mono Picked this up the other day as I always wanted a vinyl copy of this session. I did an online search to see what I could find regarding this edition. Now I wished I hadn't , as there are numerous threads over at Hoffman's which deride the UK mono edition as being a weirdly phased fold down of duo phonic masters ( what ever that means). Only thing is, that my LP sounds little different to the mono 1990 CD that I have. Maybe I've lucked out or I can't hear the obvious. Anyway I'm happy with my £10 purchase. Quote
Clunky Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Next up some whacky Dutch jazz, the perfect antidote to reading the Hoffnung forum. Another bargain from Saturday ( I felt I did rather well) Willem Breuker Kollektief -------------Driebergen Zeist----------(Bvhaast) Covering originals and tunes by Duke, Prokofiev & Weill, it sounds like everyone had a lot of fun making this marvellous gem. Like the best Dutch jazz humour and controlled chaos infect the proceedings. Very highly recommended. Quote
colinmce Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Billy Bang Quintet: Rainbow Gladiator (Soul Note) Anyone know whether Michele Rosewoman is still playing/recording? Her website hasn't been updated for nearly a year now. Recording: unsure. Playing: yes Quote
Clunky Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Dizzy Reece Quintet--------Moose the Mooche--------(Discovery) 1982 reissue of a 1978 session. Great line up includes Ted Curson , Sam Jones, Roy Haynes and Claude Williamson. A bebop jam session feel pervades the record. All very nice but it could/ should have been a tad more adventurous. A keeper though. Quote
