clifford_thornton
Love those first several Vinny LPs on Nine Winds. Hi sidewinder..do you have the Clem Alford and Garuda lps? I have these and they have connections to the lansdowne series. I do like the Joe harriott/John Mayer lps on lansdowne and hey I would of course love to have that cosmic eye lp!! Though I think I'd rather spend the big bucks(if I ever had them now anymore with a wife and baby!!) on "shades of blue" and complete my rendell/Carr 5tet collection Blimey - never even heard of that 'Garuda' LP. I always thought it was just a dodgy Indonesian airline ! Have not heard the Clem Alford Lps either ('Electronic Sitar Of..', 'Mirror Image') and I guess Bass player Toni Campo is the other connection to the 'Magic Eye' LP. Will look out for them.. 'Shades of Blue' - Highly recommended. Sell the furniture and live on bread and jam to get hold of a copy (but maybe not sell the wife and kids ). Don't know these other LPs that Homefromtheforest mentions. I can say the only "bread and jam" LPs for me are the original Tusques Mouloudjis (which, when clean, I always lose out on). Everything else "comes around" and one can either buy or wait.

Very special recordings - to me at least. Edited June 19, 2013 by sidewinder

Homefromtheforest
The rendell/Carr lps actually show up for sale on eBay fairly often, but they still go for big bucks nonetheless. I mentioned Clem Alford because the "mirror image" lp which I have has Amancio D'Silva on guitar. It's not super amazing but an interesting session. The Garuda lp is more of a funky/slick affair but still quite good actually and was supervised by none other then Denis Preston at lansdowne studio. His production was so amazing! Those lansdowne records sound incredible. I have an audiophile friend with a $15,000+ turntable and he'd kill me for my pristine Japanese stereo copy of "dusk fire"..it sounds like a dream on his system...not a single crackle or click to be heard! Tonight's listening: Everything is everything "just flash in the cosmic pan" (Columbia, Japan) a totally scarce 1970 lp featuring Steve grossman, Dave liebman, John Abercrombie, Reggie workman, Joe bonner and a few others....killer free jazz/fusion stuff
Homefromtheforest
Clifford try to find a Japanese issue of "le nouveau jazz".... It should be cheaper and likely easier to find in clean condition....I'm often quite suspect of french pressings..in general not the best quality. I,m seeing Francois Tusques live this Friday at the Vancouver jazz festival with William Parker, Hamid Drake, and Kidd Jordan!

Not sure of the original quantities but it must have been only in the hundreds, certainly no more than the low thousands. 'Shades' in particular is very scarce in good condition. I remember reading about the Michael Garrick Argos that his biggest seller ('The Heart Is A Lotus') was only about 1000 copies.Alan Skidmore 'Once Upon A Time' (Deram Nova, stereo)

Head Man
Alan Skidmore 'Once Upon A Time' (Deram Nova, stereo) Sold my copy of this to a Japanese collector when Vocalion reissued it on CD. It was the only time I ever got "big bucks" for any of my vinyl sales and even then it was only about £120. ...if I knew then what I know now....... mjazzg
KH Stockhausen or ECM? Neither I'm afraid. Sorry about that, the image was there when I pressed 'post', honest. Something very odd is happening today because as I type this it's in a different font and small without the usual 'font' and 'size' adjust options available.Anyway the image was of the cover for Brotzmann/Hamid Drake - Solid and Spirit [Nero's Neptune]edit to add: having posted I'm relieved to see the odd font issue hasn't translated to the post - too weird Edited June 21, 2013 by mjazzg

A few outlets in the UK seem to list it. Its a fine album. I'm not sure of there really is afrenzy over getting hold of this one or whether Oto just sold what they had quickly. Recommended whatever
