NIS Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 I'm doing a blindfold test in a couple of months (you should check that section out, it is alot of fun), so I've been playing some stuff I haven't heard for awhile to find some music. God that is an awful sentence. Anyway, this is a really good album. I will certainly listen to it more often. Quote

Clunky Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 Barry Guy, Howard Riley, John Stevens, Trevor Watts,- " Endgame"- (Japo) rec. 1979 and it's just as good as you'd expect. Recommended. Quote
jeffcrom Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 Le Jazz en France, Volume 1 - Paris 1919-1923: Premiers Jazz Bands (Pathe Marconi). Some very enjoyable not-quite-jazz-yet, at least to an antiquarian like me. This is the stuff that influenced Ravel and Milhaud. Quote
JohnS Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 One I'd forgotten I had. Lacy hasn't been on my turntable for a while. Quote

Clunky Posted June 5, 2013 Report Posted June 5, 2013 Bennie Maupin, Mike Nock , Cecil McBee, Eddie Marshall---- "Almanac"-----(IAI) issued 1977 but sleeve says recorded NYC 1967, wonder if this is correct ?? Any which way it's a very good as you'd hope with Maupin sounding excellent. His playing here reminds me of Sam Rivers. Excellent. Quote

Any which way it's a very good as you'd hope with Maupin sounding excellent. His playing here reminds me of Sam Rivers. Excellent. He was releasing (very good) fusion LPs like the ones below around 1977 so I would suspect that the 1967 date might be correct. I suspect also that by 1977 Mike Nock would no longer have been resident in NYC and returned home across the Pacific. Edited June 5, 2013 by sidewinder Quote

Clunky Posted June 6, 2013 Report Posted June 6, 2013 Black Arthur Blythe---- "Bush Baby"-------(Echo Jazz) recorded 1977 .......and quite a bit more interesting than some of his Columbia sides, recommended then George Adams-------"Sound Suggestions"-------(ECM) rec. 1979 .......... stellar lineup deliver the goods , if only Manfred had stopped Adams singing on one track. Wheeler in very fine form , I've yet to get a handle on which tenor is Adams and which Heinz Sauer. Also recommended. Quote
jeffcrom Posted June 6, 2013 Report Posted June 6, 2013 I like both of those records a lot - including George's singing! Quote
