Worth 4 bucks!!!!!! Bleedin' 'ell! before that gene ammons-brasswind...what the hell is going on during the first track? ammons sounds like he is asleep and then someone shakes him awake to play his solo. prince lasha is on this one a bit, which is weird too. i always feel david axelrod was OVERRATED as a jazz album producer. but a decent album... lou donaldson-cosmos...was this his best blue note? i think it might be. really an awesome record...leon spencer, melvin sparks, jerry jemmott....great stuff. vocals don't get in the way and spencer plays a little clavinet! I'll definitely give you overrated. BUT - I just got Jimmy Witherspoon's "Baby, baby, baby" and Axelrod produced half of that album (Ozzie Cadena the rest) and it's beautiful. I don't like either of those albums. I think Jug sounds very strained on "Brasswind". And I really don't like the bkvocs on "Cosmos". But I'll give them both another listen. Decent session but not a patch on Very Saxy ok at £2 The Eureka Jazz Band of New Orleans London- Atlantic - stereo ! right now The Dedication Series/Vol. 1 The Bopmasters, Sonny Criss/Kenny Dorham , generous pairing of KD quintet with Montrose ex. ABC-Paramount and Criss' Peacock session with Ole Hansen and Wynton Kelly. The Dorham sessions is the better of the two. I've seen a few of those London Atlantics around with material from this set. I'll bet it sounds good in the London pressing ! It sounds very fine, I find the London's on the whole a lot better than US Atlantics of similar vintage, although I've never been able to do a direct A-B comparison. I've a whole pile of Sydney De Paris Atlantic Londons which easily outclass the pressing quality of the one Sydney De Paris US pressing (On the Riviera) that I have. Hardly scientific, but I'm quite happy when I can get a nice London in decent condition. Stereo copies always seem much rarer which presumably reflects the market in the UK at the time of issue.
