I agree it’s pretty confusing. I always have to check out Discogs when buying a new Steve Lacy record.

Interesting set. Curiously Discogs dates this issue to 1971 the same year as the BYG release. Seems odd given that they are both French labels. The liners to the America issue are just in English - perhaps this edition was for export ? Sound/pressing  is better than typically found from BYG issues.

My understanding is that after Delcloo had a falling out with the BYG people, he took the tapes of that record and Coursil's "Black Suite" to Pierre Berjot, who issued them on America.

I find that that's a recurring issue when reviewing for a cull. Perhaps I should just listen more often to those I have...

That's a real favourite of mine because of that piano trio. 

With culls you just have to be brutal. Brush the tears from your eyes. No time for pity or sentiment.

Yeah it’s the same trio as on Basra by LaRoca which is another favorite of mine. Farmer is such a different player than Henderson but it works with both of them. 

I am a little more careful with culling records from my collection. At this moment there are only about 5 or 6 on my list but not sure yet so haven’t put them down for sale yet. Repeated listens could really change your feelings about a record or even the artist himself.

yep

getting another bank of shelves built and calculated that they'll be full pretty much immediately. I have two rooms full of records. I really just have to get rid of stuff.

Everytime I spin this one I am amazed by its fresh and original sound. It sounds way ahead of its time. One of the most memorable jazz groups if you’d ask me.
