I only had purchased one or two from Denon, I think. 1977/78 was happy times for me as a youngster and budding jazzmusician. I already had saw live some of my idols, like Diz, Mingus and Max, so 3 from the 5 Massey Hall Giants. Each was great. Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted Monday at 01:37 PM Report Posted Monday at 01:37 PM Terry Gibbs/Sal Nistico/Nat Pierce/Charlie Andrus/Turk Van Lake/Jake Hanna (Time Records). I found a beat up copy of this in a used bin the other day and thought I'd give it a try. Nistico plays his ass off. Guitar/bass/drums rhythm is a bit too straitlaced for 1964 with the guitar playing in a strict swing style. Nat Pierce's organ playing is not doing anything for me at all. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted Monday at 02:13 PM Report Posted Monday at 02:13 PM Franco Ambrosetti - Close Encounter (Inner City). I bought this mostly because Bennie Wallace is on it. I tend to enjoy most anything Bennie played on. This one is just OK though. I think a lot of my indifference is due to the crappy bass sound. I don't what they did on the later 70's when recording the acoustic bass, but sometimes, it just sounds bad. Quote
