Pee Wee Russell and Ruby Braff at Storyville, volume 1 (Savoy)image.jpeg.3b764579b11131945adbc2109d4f19cb.jpeg

Listened to a reissue of this and more (2-LP set) last weekend. Nice, and apparently a key document of Russell's career (his first recorded document after his recovery).

I don´t have it, but it must be interesting, since the usual set list was almost always the same: Blue´n Boogie, Round Midnight, Night in Tunisia etc.

Here there is more Monk compositions and "I Waited for You" was seldom played after the bop era. It´s a beautiful ballad. I think this record is hard to find....

The song on the record is "I'll Wait For You". Different song.

It’s weird to not have someone on your radar who is so much right up your alley. Glad I got to know this guy. This must be the most beautiful version of The Shadow Of Your Smile by miles 😍

I had a similar revelation when I discovered Ortega, courtesy of posts here. The Hat CD adds a fair bit to that LP if I remember correctly

Yeah I might pick that one up as well. The vinyl sounds amazing though. The sax is very intimate.
