Love the Griffin Davis thing if I want to hear something easy just to snap fingers and tap my feet. And I like the humour both of them have in their music. But most of all I like the tracks where they play Monk tunes. Only I don´t dig sooooo much Junior Mance. He has a helluva technique, but overdoes it a bit like Oscar Peterson, and I don´t like at all what he does with "Epistrophy". He destroys the tune that way how he plays it, and Epistrophy is the very beginning of modern jazz.....

Don’t know if it’s his best but definitely among his best. That’s such a great record. Addictive music. Joe made lot of great music for that label back than. 20 hours ago, mjazzg said: Liking the new in situ photos Now onto: Byard Lancaster - Funny Funky Rib Crib [Palm/Souffle Continu, France 2024] courtesy of a very generous fellow board member Happy to see it spinning on your turntable now Mark enjoy! Not the first spin by any means, been digging in since it arrived just not posted it. As for Henderson's best Milestone album, that tends to be whichever I'm listening to at the time 😃 And yes that MJQ is lovely, a lot of them are

Because I love Mance's playing -- with Griff & Lock, with Dizzy, with Cannonball, with Gene Ammons -- whenever he's a sideman or a leader. Different strokes for different folks, eh!?! I have that as a NY Mono, too. From the days when such things were affordable... Most of the releases on the Revelation label are interesting, and often also enjoyable. I believe I have some ten Clare Fischer releases. Now playing this one:

This is my favorite Jazz Crusaders Lighthouse album! I've been looking for a Japanese pressing for a while, somewhat half-heartedly, as I believe it does not come in the gorgeous gatefold sleeve of the US original. Now playing a mono Scepter release (not the best sound quality to be honest) with Art Farmer.

Can comment only on the japanese King Records release GXF-3096 from 1979 .... no gatefold and the sound is excellent ... having said that the Capitol German Pressing from 1969 (was lucky enough to score a mint copy much later) is on par soundwise .... jazzcorner
Re : Crusaders at Lighthouse ' 69 Well my copy is not a copy of the gatefold edition but the sound quality is excellent as all Toshiba reissues I know and have. A little handicap is that I cant read the japanese liners
