Bet the neighbours are pleased that the family is away....

The adjoining neighbour was actually a bouncer in Soho in the early modernist jazz era. I am not sure what he would make of Babi, so I am playing it nice and quietly. He is 83 and very nice but could still make mincemeat of me.

That King LP is good ! Saw Sheldon back in 1999 both playing and talking about the West Coast scene of the 50s.

Gary McFarland - Profiles (impulse!, stereo)

I have a mono copy too, but I'm currently wired for stereo.

How is that? I see it about a fair bit. I like McFarland's 'Point Of Departure' and the one with Bill Evans but that's as far as I've gone

Good, not earth-shattering.  Certainly more jazz than pop, but not as good as the Bill Evans or Steve Kuhn collaborations. Worth picking up in clean condition for a good price.

NP:  Gary McFarland - Scorpio and Other Signs (Verve, stereo)

This is one is more pop, and it may be his most compelling pop record, maybe next to The In Sound, also on Verve.

Now spinning:

Cecil McBee Sextet with Chico Freeman - Compassion (Enja, 1979)

Earlier today, this new (to me) LP was on my turntable:

Shamek Farrah & Sonelius Smith - The World of the Children (Strata-East, 1977)
Pure Pleasure reissue

Trumpeter Joe Gardner plays on both of these wonderful LPs.

Next up:

Lou Donaldson - Cosmos (Blue Note, 1971)
with Leon Spencer, Melvin Sparks, Jerry Jemmott, Idris Muhammad, and others

Outstanding soul jazz.  Given the players (and Donaldson's use of the Varitone throughout), perhaps it's no surprise that the music sounds like more like Bob Porter-produced sides for Prestige than a Blue Note date.
