One of the Strata-East/Pure Pleasure LPs. Interesting session - sounds like a bit of 'Bitches Brew' influence in there plus David Lee on drums gives it a sound which is akin to Rollins' Milestone LPs of this era.

Incidentally my Tolliver 'Impact' had an OK side 1 but some unknown Krautrock on side 2. Commendably, Pure Pleasure are replacing it with a new copy.

weird re: Tolliver reissue!

That Rouse is such a great album. Back in the day I thought it was too "funky" but at this point in time I am quite a fan.

Pure Pleasure have never encountered any other incidence of this apparently, must have been a manufacturing balls-up at Pallas.

The Rouse is good - very much 'of its time' but in a good way. Interesting that cello was used as part of the front line.

Yes, it's great isn't it. Stenson's so good as the piano shouldn't really fit into the music.

Agreed.  But Stenson makes it work somehow.  :)

I've been after it for years (saw Temiz in the 90s) and it popped up on a dealer's list the other day.

I've had an eye out for it too -- but I still haven't found a copy that's in my price range.

Seems like there aren't many copies out there, particularly here in N. America.

It's definitely worth it if you do find one

Primary

Keiki Midorikawa - Five Pieces Of Cake [Offbeat Records, Japan 1975]

no Stenson on this @HutchFan but I think it's the better album of the two that arrived recently

O.K.!  :tup

I had no idea this album existed.  Will check it out . . .  hopefully, it's on YouTube or some other streaming platform.

EDIT
Yep, here it is:

Be interested to hear what you make of it.  It's obviously sparser being a trio and I think the clarinet playing is pretty special.  In those sleeve notes it mentions that he was well taken by Coltrane's 'Om'!

Primary

Brotzmann/Van Hove/Bennink - Balls [FMP, Germany 1977 RE]

That's also on my to-get list!  ;)

Did someone reissue it recently?

Bobby Hutcherson 'Total Eclipse' in the Tone Poet version.

It will be interesting to compare it with the Liberty issue.

Edited to say that this version sounds pretty excellent to me. Certainly a step of two up from the DMM version I bought in the mid 80s. The gatefold colour pictures of Bobby and co. are great too.

It's great. Mine's the first reissue from 1977

The most recent reissue appears to have been this from a while ago

https://www.discogs.com/release/3057020-Brötzmann-Van-Hove-Bennink-Balls

I have the second 70s pressing, not silkscreened but early labels. No poster. It is a fascinating album.

Now on my 'table:

Illinois Jacquet - How High the Moon (Prestige, 2 LPs)

Ladies & Gentlemen - Make no mistake: Listening to Illinois Jacquet will make you feel GOOD.  No matter the symptom, he's got the Rx for what ails ya.
