I did not knew that. Looks like him 2 hours ago, Gheorghe said: That´s it. Exactly those two albums are my Wayne Shorter Favourites. I might also add "Schizofrenia" as this was my entry into the music of Wayne when I was a teenie. I don´t have it but as much as I remember it was very late in his live, about 1987. Chet became better and better in the 80´s. I never listened to the albums of the Westcoast and didn´t even know who is Chet until there was an article about him in Jazzpodium in 1978. I saw him the last time late in 1987 and it was the best Chet I ever heard. this might be my favorite Wayne. Schizophrenia is selected for the upcoming Tone Poets. Wayne is such a powerful player but I have to say it’s his ballad playing that stuns me the most. About Chet. For me it’s the other way around. I prefer the young Chet. The stuff I like best is with Russ Freeman on piano and the stuff on Barclay. The later stuff is hit and miss for me. I do like these Paddle Wheels a lot. Indeed a 1987 live recording. Quote

Yes, I bought this LP when it came out, as a deletion. It is also on the Shorty Rogers Mosaic box set. Never saw Shorty alas but did get to see Pete Jolly and Bill Holman and briefly met Bill - nice guy. I remember Jazz Journal doing features on Shorty’s UK tours in the 70s and 80s. Will have to check those out. Pretty sure Steve Voce wrote the articles. Edited December 6, 2022 by sidewinder Quote

It helped that the local presence of jazz-fan and media star Miles Kington helped to make such things happen. Sadly, no longer to be. Now on deck - Edited December 8, 2022 by sidewinder Quote

Pim Posted December 10, 2022 Report Posted December 10, 2022 The west coast stuff from the early/mid fifties is my favorite Chet ❤️ it breathes a certain atmosphere I just really like. When I close my eyes I feel like I am on the other side of the ocean in that very decade which is interesting as I never visited the States and I was born in 1990… Quote
