Yeah, my first reaction was that the newer versions were looser (not in a good way) and maybe lacked a certain urgency. But that impression didn't last, it evolved.

Nobody plays like old people except old people, especially in matters of section playing. Basie's bands proved that, as did Ellington's, in the other direction.

Big bands are tricky that way.

A full digital recording from 1992? Just pick up the cheap CD version. No need to pay big bucks for the vinyl.

i knowwww but god im REALLY INTO BRUBECK/SMITH AND HAVE COMPLETE ON VINYL incl stereo/mono duplicates of the top fantasys and columbias.......

This was never released on LP except for the Jazz Heritage LP that came out in 1994.

The last one from the big haul from Japan. Very, very satisfied with all these great Japanese pressings. Part from a single pop or click on just a few of the LP's they were all in very, very good condition
