Bill Smith (William O Smith) was IMO member of the Brubeck Octet on Fantasy. He plays clarinet on this album. Jim Hall is always good. Monty Budwig on bass & Shelly Manne on drums rec. 1959 at Contemporarys. Engineer: Roy DuNann! Cant be better in sound quality Edited September 3, 2022 by jazzcorner Quote

The Fats Navarro-Sonny Rollins thing is the greatest . I think I remember on Vol III I only liked the stuff with Curtis Fuller, side A is quite weird and unorganized, From the trio recordings if I remember right I liked most the "Time Waits" with Philly Joe Jones !!!!!, and the compositions on it..... JSngry Posted September 8, 2022 Report Posted September 8, 2022 Produced by Crud Taylor, how about that? Quote
sidewinder Posted September 8, 2022 Report Posted September 8, 2022 Classic series 2LP. Recall that I saw her with a different trio in a club around the time this was recorded. Good day for an extended vinyl and Mosaic blitz. Quote

I picked up "Mess Of Blues" a few years back and I didn't like it much at all, mainly due to the poor audio. I'm also not much of a fan of Wild Bill's style of organ playing. Quote
