Attila Zoller & Masahiko Sato - A Path Through Haze (MPS, 1972)

Found a reasonably-priced vinyl copy of this album in VG+ condition (in the U.S., no less!) on discogs.  Glad I went for it, because -- big surprise! -- the vinyl sounds SO MUCH better than my amazon-sourced MP3s. . . .  I suppose it's not financially feasible, but -- from a strictly musical perspective -- I would love to see Edel make A Path Through Haze available again through their MPS reissue series.  It's a hidden gem.

yes, it's a really wonderful album and not too hard to find in nice shape for a reasonable price either.

Vertigo - of it’s time, mellotrons set to 11 !

I was listening to Bedside Manners Are Extra yesterday. The second track has duelling mellotron solos. More 1970s than Noddy Holder eating a steak garni and black forest gateau.

Do any of these stand out?

They're all quite different in an ambient-y, not very Jazz way. I'd say each has a lot to recommend them but if you put a gun to my head to make me choose one then the latest Nino, the bottom one is the one to go for.

I like Nino's output a lot. That west coast scene of which he appears a focus has some impressive players particularly Jamael Dean whose solo work is well worth investigating.

Thanks. What Jamael Dean would you go for?

I'm now listening to that Kurt Weill / Sextet of Orchestra USA record too -- but my vinyl is the French RCA MASTERS version.  It looks like this:

I wish John Lewis & Eric Dolphy played on the whole album, instead of just half.

Lovely record. I remember watching the corresponding video on YT back in the pmendes days. I guess it can still be found on INA behind a paywall.
