Sebesky's "more is more" approach to arranging often doesn't appeal to me, but -- on this album -- the arrangements don't feel overblown.  They're still big and cinematic and very much of the time.  But they work, IMO.

As for Jackie's voice, she's still got me in her grip, regardless of the setting. ;)

EDIT (after listening a bit more):
Well... maybe the arrangements are a little bit overblown.  :P   But I still dig the music.

How about her bebop contribution in the Charlie Ventura concert with Roy Kral?

Attila Zoller - Memories of Pannonia (Enja, 1986)

That looks interesting. I have some earlier Zoller but never followed up on them despite rating them

Yes.  Plus Herbie and Dee Dee Bridgewater on the opening & closing cuts.  :)

And another one I didn't know about. Now streaming it and thinking it might have to be a purchase. Been over to Discohgs and there's a copy in UK...

With the Zoller, that's two today @HutchFan:rolleyes:

How's the 1974 issue sound? It's half the price of the Pure Pleasure reissue

That's what makes this place so dangerous for all of us !!!  :D

So much collective knowledge 'round here!

Absolutely. I love that I can be blissfully unaware of something that's as good as the Connors and then be enlightened by your and other's enthusiasm. All on a dull London Tuesday afternoon too!

The variety of knowledge here is such an inspiration to learn, and spend, more.

But my bank manager would like a word with you :)

I've never really noticed the AQ on my Buddah LP, one way or another.  So I suppose that means it's fine.  Perhaps not extraordinary.  But certainly not noticeably bad.

:D She just raises eyebrows heavenward and says "not another LP, where's the space for that"

Commitment - s/t

picked this up yesterday for $8. Jacket has some water damage in one corner but the disc is immaculate. I have the nonbusiness version but couldn't pass this up for the price.
