Weren’t those paintings used for those 2LP sets auctioned off on behalf of Bruce Lundvall’s estate after he passed?  I remember seeing the Lester one at least.

I remember the paintings on the Verve 2 LP sets were used on all those 2 LP sets in the 70´s. And there were paintings on the Columbia Contemporary Masters (3 Bird LPs "One Night at Birdland" "Summit Meeting at Birdland" and "Bird with Strings"). And the Dexter painting was also on the "Homecoming" I think when Bruce Lundvall still was the boss of Columbia". Lundvall after leaving the company startet the Electra Musician label and most of the artists who were under contract by CBS left and started to record for Electra Musician. That´s how I remember it. Dexter´s last record for CBS was "Gotham City" in 1981 and in 1982 Electra Musician started and the next record of Dexter for Lundvall was "American Classic" on Electra Musician, as Woody Shaw who also made 2 live albums for the label.

I solved that awful "rechanneled for stereo" fault playing it with my mono cartridge.

Wasn't this recorded in stereo though? RVG started recording in stereo in March of 1957 and by May when this was made, he was recording all sessions in stereo. I know that there have been LPs released with "Electronically rechanneled for stereo" stamped across the cover when the music is in actual stereo.

Really? I'll give it another spin with stereo cartridge.

Jackie & Roy - Full Circle (Contemporary, 1988)

Yeah, there's something undeniably cheesy about Jackie & Roy's "We're so in love!" schtick.  But there's also an appealing innocence to their music.  For someone like me, who was a little kid in the heyday of "Sesame Street" and watched it daily, there's an unhackneyed simplicity in Jackie & Roy's music that reminds me of that show. ... At times, I'm also reminded of Myrna Loy and William Powell in the "Thin Man" movies.  I find Loy and Powell irresistible -- even when the plots are ridiculous.

In any case, I've sorta gone bananas for Jackie & Roy's music lately.  Maybe our dumpster-fire of a world has something to do with it.  Escapism in times like these makes sense.  But I also think their talent is undeniable.   And their vocal duo thing was unique.

I can't think of any other duos working in a similar space -- aside from Marty Culp (Will Ferrell) and Bobbi Mohan-Culp (Ana Gasteyer), the married couple who serve as music teachers at Altadena Middle School on "Saturday Night Live."

Of course, the "The Culp Family" weren't quite as talented as Jackie & Roy.  ;)

I'm a Jackie and Roy fan as well, they can be a nice chill pill when needed and they also have done some innovative work that makes me sit forward on my seat at times.

When Muse re-pressed/re-issued Bird Lives in 1989, they used a different cover image:

Red-Rodney-Bird-Lives-Vinyl.jpg

Very garish, very "1980s" graphic design.  (This is the version that I have. :o)

Regardless of packaging, the music is GOOD.
