R.I.P. Those are both excellent. I don't believe these have been reissued on CD. Quote

Terrific music that's never had a digital release. Pairing them up would make a great 2-fer CD. But that'll almost certainly never happen. The band assembled for those LPs is really exceptional. I think Billy Higgins is the not-so-secret sauce. But they all play fantastically well. Also, I love the choice to NOT include a pianist on the date and use Diorio's guitar instead as the chordal instrument, à la Sonny Rollins & Jim Hall. NP: Don Patterson - Why Not ... Yes, picked up a copy of that one too. Sounds superb - apart from some clicks on the run in on one side. Sadly, sold out now so can’t replace. Even so, wouldn’t want to be without it. In addition to fine work by Ron as usual, I really like Renee Rosnes’ playing on this performance. The live atmosphere is also captured well. In&Out tell me that they have an upcoming Ramon Valle Trio vinyl release with the same treatment and signatures, which will be tempting. Edited September 25, 2020 by sidewinder Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted September 25, 2020 Report Posted September 25, 2020 Warne Marsh - Star Highs (Criss Cross). Although this is listed as a Warne Marsh date, it sometimes feels like a Hank Jones date. Hank plays very nicely on this. Quote
HutchFan Posted September 26, 2020 Report Posted September 26, 2020 Willis Jackson - West Africa (Muse, 1974) with Ted Dunbar, Mickey Tucker, Bob Cranshaw, Freddie Waits, Richard Landrum & Sonny Morgan Gator's version of the Bacharach & David song "A House Is Not a Home" on this LP ... Yowza! If you'd like to hear for yourself ... Quote
sidewinder Posted September 26, 2020 Report Posted September 26, 2020 (edited) Picked up for a fiver in mint after getting my early morning RSD batch 2 items. A gem ! Edited September 26, 2020 by sidewinder Quote
sidewinder Posted September 26, 2020 Report Posted September 26, 2020 (edited) The ‘Redux’ 60th Anniversary 2LP edition. Looks like a Mark Wilder mastering, nice, big and crisp sound. Side 4 has alternates which I don’t think are on the ‘Mosaic Complete Columbia’. Next up - 60s Scandinavian jam featuring Don Cherry on Gearbox. 45rpm. Edited September 26, 2020 by sidewinder Quote
RiRiIII Posted September 26, 2020 Report Posted September 26, 2020 I got also the Cherry 45rpm this morning. Quote
sidewinder Posted September 26, 2020 Report Posted September 26, 2020 Missed this one the first time round. A few annoying crackles, which seems to be a common complaint with this pressing/title. 5 minutes ago, RiRiIII said: I got also the Cherry 45rpm this morning. Quote
RiRiIII Posted September 26, 2020 Report Posted September 26, 2020 But I am now listening to Joe Henderson at Village Vanguard Vol. 1 (Tone Poet, 2020). I enjoy it a lot. Superb. 6 minutes ago, sidewinder said: Missed this one the first time round. A few annoying crackles, which seems to be a common complaint with this pressing/title. I never ever had any chance with these Bill Evans Resonance records issued in RSDs... Too bad for the pressing. Quote
sidewinder Posted September 26, 2020 Report Posted September 26, 2020 (edited) I see in the alternative universe of the Hoffmann Forum that people are currently reporting paying 60 Euro to $100 Cdn in their stores for the Evans. About 1.5 times what the stores are charging here. Outrageous ! 13 minutes ago, RiRiIII said: ... Too bad for the pressing. It’s just the occasional random ‘pop’, nothing major. The Mingus was pristine though. Edited September 26, 2020 by sidewinder Quote
