Expand Yes. About the same lay out had this one, I think it was the first from that series that I purchased. Quote

chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted November 1, 2019 Report Posted November 1, 2019 THIS IS BALLZ-POSITIVE THE GREATEST CANDIDO I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE BESIDES THE TWO TIMES I SAW HIM LIVE. They close-mic'd his congas just like they would take on "Manteca"-- and the lp is mastered good, you can crank it up--- also rare bird and lee konitz to sweeten the deal.- Quote

HutchFan Posted November 3, 2019 Report Posted November 3, 2019 Giving this another spin: This LP is more slick & commercial than the other Irakere records I've heard. But I really dig it! It's infectious, irresistible music -- even if the "jazz quotient" is lower. Quote

HutchFan Posted November 5, 2019 Report Posted November 5, 2019 (edited) Frank Capp / Nat Pierce - Juggernaut (Concord, 1977) It's a bit disconcerting (pun intended) how much these guys sound like the Basie band. They may as well have been a "tribute band" -- but Basie & his band were still doing their thing in 1977. Tribute acts usually come after the original no longer exists. Not here though. HutchFan Posted November 5, 2019 Report Posted November 5, 2019 Hank Crawford - Roadhouse Symphony (MIlestone, 1985) The LP cover art practically screams "It's the 1980s!" -- but the music is timeless. Quote
