Johnny Griffin: Live in Tokyo (Philips)

Had my eye on that after Horace Parlan died and pulled the trigger with a discogs seller this past weekend.  Now that I know Paul likes it I am sure I will too ... :)

Without thinking about it overly much, this is probably my favorite late Griff.

I can't imagine the booklets were consistently installed...

The insert is the continuation of the back cover - no booklet in my copy!

This is also one of my favorite Griffin records from that period -- along with The Return of the Griffin on Galaxy. Both are superb, imho.

Jimmy Smith, Bluesmith (Verve), and Kenny Burrell, Out of this World (Prestige) (aka Bluesy Burrell).

I love that Jimmy Smith record. Some tremendous playing from Teddy Edwards.

Though I've always wondered why they brought in Leroy Vinnegar on a Hammond B3 date. He sounds good (no surprise), but Jimmy Smith doesn't really need a bassist.

not least because this city could do with beauty like this at the moment. I hope the O-board's London contingent and loved ones are safe today.

Some Savoy EP 45's - Ike Quebec, Lennie Tristano, Don Byas, Sonny Stiit, and Jay Jay Johnson

I wonder how many copies of the Tristano 45 Savoy sold.

I have one.
