Clunky Posted January 1, 2015 Report Posted January 1, 2015 Paris Reunion Band - For Klook (Gazell). A Seattle find. This is my first listen, and so far the music seems like less than the sum of its parts. Know what you mean. That lineup should ensure something incredible whereas it's merely average. Quote
Clunky Posted January 1, 2015 Report Posted January 1, 2015 Phil Woods & European Rhythm Machine ------Live at Montreux 72---------(Pierre Cardin,France) Very strong rhythm section risks eclipsing Phil. Phil plays lots of notes but seems perhaps a little directionless. None the less the whole effect of the band is pretty compelling especially Gordon Beck on piano who seems inspired. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted January 1, 2015 Report Posted January 1, 2015 Good one. Now, Seam - Headsparks - (City Slang, GER) Quote

clifford_thornton Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 Bernie McGann - The Australasian Jazz Avant-Garde 1966 - (Sarang Bang) unissued quartet and quintet recordings from this under-sung altoist, absolutely essential group music. Quote
jeffcrom Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 A couple of African singles: Fela Kuti and His Koola Lobitos - Se e Tun De/Waka Waka (Kalakuta Sunrise). A reissue of an early Fela record from the 1960s. Ladysmith Black Mambazo - Lonyaka/Mama Lo (Motella). An original South African single from 1972, in a cool sleeve from Zebra Record and Tape Sales in Johannesburg. I couldn't find a picture of this particular record, but it's identical to the Motella single above, except for the song title, of course. Quote
kh1958 Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 Art Blakey, A Night at Birdland, volume 2 (W. 63rd/NY USA). Another battered copy; vivid sound but with lots of surface noise. Quote
