clifford_thornton Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 Oh right. I believe that a significant number of the discs were defective somehow - wrong music, maybe? Can't remember. Quote
paul secor Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 Tiny Grimes: Callin' the Blues (Prestige/OJC) I think of this as a J.C. Higginbotham record as often as I think of it as a Tiny Grimes record. Quote
Clunky Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 From a record fair last Saturday my first opportunity to hear these two. Mint Japanese reissues from mid 1980s. I'd love to have a copy of 'Juba Lee'] In fairness the 'dealer' had travelled to Japan with my wants list which included these plus dozens of others. These were the only ones he managed to get , no luck with various Japanese free jazz and Steve Lacy items I'd been interested in. Still I consider myself very lucky. Quote

Clunky Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 still on a Marion Brown kick.... Marion Brown Quartet---------(Fontana- ESP-Disk) 60s UK pressing confusingly titled as far as I can hear all three tracks feature more than 4 musicians. IIRC there are two versions of this LP with a different track on side 2. Mine's got Exhibition on label and cover with Bennie Maupin featured. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Two basses on "Capricorn Moon" (quintet), "27 Cooper Square" and "Exhibition" each have one bassist (quartet). I haven't listened to that LP in years but it is also one of the greatest jazz records ever made. Quote

Homefromtheforest Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 Misha Mengelberg & Han Bennink - untitled (Two New Ways To Draw A Circle) - (ICP, NL) Is that ICP10? I have that one..have not spun that in nearly 10 years or more. Right now: Masahiko Sato "Switched On East" (Columbia, Japan) Actually not quite as cheesy as I expected..this is pretty enjoyable, but I am a sucker for fat analog synth sounds Next: Masahiko Sato "Holography" (Columbia, Japan) Sold my reissue of this ages ago, and just recently found an original pressing so I look forward to hearing this again. clifford_thornton Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 yes, ICP 10. I hadn't either and it seemed like a good fit. Quote
