colinmce Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Nice find indeed ! Spinning - 'Introducing Duke Pearson's Big Band' (BN Liberty, stereo) I got this very same LP in a shop years ago for $2 mint. Still haven't felt motivated to play it. I should put it on tomorrow. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Got a new amplifier today(well a late 70s vintage beast that weighs a ton but sounds amazing) and these records got played to test it out: Michael Garrick "prelude to heart is a lotus" (gearbox) ...excellent sound, music, and performance...what a great album! Masabumi Kikuchi "end for the beginning" (Philips, Japan) Henri Texier "Paris-batignolles" (label bleu, France) Quote
sidewinder Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Michael Garrick "prelude to heart is a lotus" (gearbox) ...excellent sound, music, and performance...what a great album! Really must get hold of that one. I got this very same LP in a shop years ago for $2 mint. Still haven't felt motivated to play it. I should put it on tomorrow. Those were the days. I think my copy was unplayed too - picked it up along with a mono Duke Pearson 'Sweet Honey Bee' in similar shape. According to Honest Jon's they had been sitting in a US store-room for about 30 years. Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 So far this morning Shirley Scott & Stanley Turrentine - Blue flames - Prestige (Ace UK) now Donald Byrd - Blackjack - BN (UA dark blue label) My second copy - can't remember what happened to the original, which I got before 'Mustang' and which persuaded me to rush out and buy that one, too. But I still prefer this album. MG Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 This afternoon Percy Mayfield with the Phillip Walker Blues Band - Hit the road again - Timeless now Hey - don't try getting images from Jazzwax.com. You get hung and can't close, move or minimise your browser window. Gotta shut down in a mo. Now playing Leroy Vinnegar - Leroy walks again - Contemporary (Vogue UK mono) MG Quote
jeffcrom Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Jazz Studio Orchestra of the Polish Radio - Polish Jazz (Muza stereo). The big names, I guess, on this 1969 album are Tomasz Stanko and Zbigniew Namysłowski. Oddly, the latter is not listed among the personnel, but he's credited with the alto saxophone solo on Krzysztof Komeda's "Kattorna." Quote
jeffcrom Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Walt Dickerson/Richard Davis - Divine Gemini (Steeplechase) Quote
jeffcrom Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Henry Townsend - Hard Luck Stories (Swingmaster). 1981 recordings by the St. Louis blues master, split between guitar and piano. (Townsend was equally adept at both instruments.) Wonderful. Quote
Deepak Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 Charlie Parker - Complete Savoy Studio Sessions what the doctor ordered after 12 hours of work and 3 emergencies Quote
paul secor Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 Ephie Resnick/Marty Grosz: The End of Innocence (Mark Records) A seemingly homemade record of trombone and guitar duets. Charming and real. My copy has an address for Ephraim Resnick stamped on it. Wonder if he still lives there? The image above is actually the back cover, but it was all I could find. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 Whoa. That vibe is really up my alley. Would love to hear it. Now: Rolf & Joachim Kühn - Transfiguration - (Saba) Quote
