Just received this box set last night from Michael of Transparency. Cost me 55 dollars including Priority Mail postage.

Interesting packaging: a plastic box with a painting of RA as a front cover, a description of the set as a back cover, and inside 28 cdrs in plastic envelopes set up as a binder. 55 plus hours of music. Two 11 x 17 sheets of paper printed front and back show the contents of each disc and the personnel information.

I've listened to the first two discs. Sound is not great, but not bad. . . . It probably will actually get better sounding as we go along as this is the complete shows of a week's residency at the Detroit club. Interesting music! I've usually not explored this time period of Ra too heavily. . . now I can at a great price.

Lon, have you had any time to listen to more of the new box??

I've listened to about five more discs.

Lots of organ.

Sound is okay.

Interesting stuff.

I love this period of Sun Ra. I got the set as well -- apparently disc 19 is flawed, so I am getting a replacement. Unwrapping a sheet of tin foil, putting it on my head and kicking on the stereo.

Got my copy of Some Blues But Not the Kind That's Blue yesterday in the mail.

Awesome! Four additional tracks, and this one is mastered from the master tapes. (Last one was from an lp). Yay Atavistic and keep them coming!

Got to get this one, love that Atavistic Sun Ra reissue series!

Here is the newest from ReR Megacorp:

SUN RA Update

1. The 28 CD set became snagged in mechanical reproduction breakdowns and was unhappily delayed – we are assured that it will be shipping to us within 10 days. Our apologies. But, Transparency is a reliable label. Meantime, this:

ANOTHER REMARKABLE SUN RA OFFER

SUN RA

Live at the Horseshoe Tavern (Toronto 1978)

10 CDs [ £22 plus postage] Transparency 0310

An opportunity to assess Ra – and the Arkestra’s – work in context. Earlier LPs and. CDs have always had to be always extracts or edits from Ra’s typically long concerts. These 10 CDs document three full concerts from March, September & November 1978 at the Horseshoe Tavern - offering over 8 hours of excellent music, well recorded and available for the first time to the public (none have ever even been on bootleg lists). This is a chance to experience the flexibility and vast repertoire of the Arkestra, the way sets were organised and how they constantly changed. In a limited edition of 500 copies, so please order quickly.

If you want to order this or to add it to your order, please mail us. This set is apparently ready and being packed; it will ship with the other set. We will not deduct any money for this until the goods are mailed to you but recommend you order soon if you want it.

News of two more forthcoming Ras:

1. Deluxe re-mastered reissue of the classic Media Dreams, with an extra CD of previously unreleased material from the same sessions. Exquisite new packaging based on hand-drawn cover of original Saturn release. One of the great small ensemble releases. Pre-order for double CD, £15.

2. Deluxe reissue of the vanishingly rare 1978 El Saturn release Some blues but not the blues that's blue; small ensemble with Ra. Allen, Gilmore, Davis, Jacson ,Omoe, Ebah and rhythm section. Studio recordings. This carefully made reissue comes with three extra tracks and a booklet with rare photos and liner notes by John Corbett. Pre-order £10.

Order now and we supply as soon as they are released; we don’t take money before the goods are sent.

Reply to rermegacorp@dial.pipex.com or mail us to pre-order.
