LarryCurleyMoe Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 Have been enjoying yeast-wheat beer lately and wondered if any of you had favorites to suggest? I've tried a few, enjoyed the Franziskanner unfiltered best...what else to try>???? 1) Franziskanner - unfiltered 2) Franziskanner - dunkel 3) Paulaner - unfiltered 4) Baltik - unfiltered (from St. Petersburg, of all places!) I've also tried some of the US micro-brew wheat beers - UPLAND BREWERY of Bloomington, IN produces a nice wheat beer, but generally the GERMAN wheat beers (hefe weissen) are superior - YUM! Thanks! Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 Erdinger Weißbier Mit feiner Hefe (Hefe-weiss) is my favorite by far. Make sure you check out the section of the web site with the diections on how to pour their beer. It is a must that you get all the yeast out of the bottle or the taste is just weird. I agree that Franziskaner is good. Hacker-Pschorr is good too (sold as Pschorr-Weiss) but be aware that nearly all of these are made by Paulaner, sometimes called "The Budweiser of Germany". They bought up all kinds of breweries and kept the old name but most of them are all the same. FWIW, I don't like Paulaner's Hefe-weiss. Too tangy. Later, Kevin Quote
Dr. Rat Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 Well, Schneider Weiss would be the obvious recommendation if you haven't tried it. Similar to the Spaten but less prone to bizarre off-flavors, in my opinion (though bizarre off-flavors aren't always bad). --eric Quote
king ubu Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 Yeah! Erdinger & Schneider Weissbier! And don't forget the slice of lemon! Quote

Yeah Kevin- I dig the "yeast factor"! Swirl the bottle towards the end and get the little yeasties to come out and make your weissen TASTY and rich! AND- MUST BE POURED INTO A WEISSEN GLASS!!!! -"Nice & Tall to Taste it ALL"!!! Thanks everyone- keep the suggestions coming- I have a couple of damn good stores here and will look for your recommendations locally first! Quote
couw Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 Schneider: yes! I am digging the stuff the brewery around the cornere recently brought to the market. Absolutely fabulous Weizen, very refreshing and a nice fruity touch. Yum yum yum yum yum.... Quote
