Both became new citizens this week-who do you think scored higher on the citizenship test?

BTW, I challenge anyone to come up with a less important poll subject than this.

(Uh oh, I think I just opened the gate ...) :g

Its basic knowledge of the governmental system-how many branches of government, things like that. Basic civics.

If you've seen the film Moscow on the Hudson, Maria Conchito Alonzo's character shares a bath with Robin Williams while he helps her study for it.

what I want to know is, what's the test about? What do they "test?"

and how?

Well since the test is an All-American thing I think spitting and grabbing your crotch tipped the hat to Manny...

I guess we're luck Roseanne wasn't taking the test-she'd have skunked all of 'em on that measure!

7/4 is of course correct. I always thought it was ironic that immigrants have to pass a test that I'd bet most Americans would flunk.

I gave it to Pam because I think she keeps abreast on government concerns, plus, after all the time she has been in court with Tommy Lee I’m sure she has a lot to get off her chest.

Also, going tit for tat against Manny gives her the edge.

My grandma took her US citizenship test when she was 81 y.o.

She came to this country when she was in her mid-70s, never spoke a word of English before, studied on her own for a year to become a US citizen.

She's going to be 90 next year. Her name is Ida Guzman and her mind is as clear as it ever been. Pray for her.

A hearty :tup:tup:tup to your grandma for making the effort to learn English and study for the citizenship test! That's an example to be admired and emulated.

Ain't that the truth.

She lost her first husband in June of 1941, he was an artillery officer, went mia on the 3rd day of the war. My mom was born in September of 41 on a train, under the German bombs.

Luckly she married again; her 2nd husband died in in 1983 from an old war wound.

She now lives with her older[!] sister, across the street from me.

There's something about these people...after all that they persevered I always remind myself of how insignificant all my daily bull-s@#t problems really are.

The test is pretty simple. My wife took it in the mid 80s and we studied hard for it but they asked questions like who appears on the five dollar bill, who was the first president and things like that. Nothing complicated.
