  1. I wonder what his feeling are about performing in front of a audience? I mean most artists, no matter what the discipline, crave the energy from a audience and their performance may suffer from one that is indifferent or doesn't give the right vibe. If he doesn't want to suffer the presence of a audience, why does he tour? His actions here, are totally and unforgivably wrong and unprofessional. What am I asking that for? It's the money, stupid!
  2. I stopped seriously taking photos at concerts/clubs because it took me away from really enjoying the music. Yes, I would see/hear Jarrett live any time we are in the same town.
  3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FpmtpLfSzg Do you mean Greensleeves ? No, I guess it's this one, but I've never heard it:
  4. Free For All sounds live...so there!
  5. Tom Kohn at The Bop Shop may good a good place to start. Tom not only owns the store, but as a fan and promoter of that type of music, he has a very astute knowledge of the music as well. Tell him I sent you.
  6. That was said about Lps when cds came out, but I understand your logic. I haven't done anything, but I should. Not in writing. I've told my wife to contact a local used cd/lp store in town and have him give her a offer on the recordings. He should be able to make some cash after sticking it out with a bricks and mortar store after all of these years. The Bop Shop Other than that, that store owner can give her a appraisal and they can be donated to a local non profit radio station, college music library with a jazz program or a out of state Jazz charity to do as they please. I'd like at least some of my photos made by myself and some made by others, special books and private recordings that I have to go to The Al Cohn Memorial Collection
  7. Last night: Torben Woodruff (w/ Gary Versace, Orlando Fleming and Jon Wikan) Last Wednesday: Aaron Goldberg (w/ Reuben Rogers and Greg Hutchinson) Last Monday: Geoffrey Keezer (solo Piano)
  8. My photo of Dr. Lonnie Smith and Johnathan Blake on Saturday night. I'll explain later!
  9. I went there and saw the Bill Hardman / Junior Cook ( w/ Billy Higgins on drums and Mickey Tucker on piano) band along with Billy Harpers band one day. Gil Evans was in the audience. That was the only time I was there.
  10. The Muntu set, I'm proud to say, has my photos from the period.
  11. I think Davis Weiss hit the nail on the head, here.
  12. Done! Thanks, Jim!!
  13. All during this coming week The International Society of Bassists is having a convention here at the Eastman School with scores of bassists from all genres and from around the world. I'm going to try see a couple of performances or workshops. Some of your favorites are: David Finck Henry Grimes Nilson Matta David Darling Ron Carter Martin Wind Dave Holland Putter Smith Harvey S. Chuck Israels Bill Crow David Young Mark Dresser Michael Formanek
  14. I remember Simon Salz from Miami / Ft. Lauderdale.
  15. Downloads. The label makes money, the artist make squat.
  16. Joe LaBarbera is next to Hamilton.
  17. Joe La Barbera just posted this recent photo:
  18. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JIM!! Thanks for everything!
  19. I've been recently contacted by the production company. It's in the pipeline and close to filming.
  20. Cranshaw switch to a upright bass is for musical reasons only. The last couple of time I've heard him he's played a upright. Bob may have had back problems but I believe that he played the fender for such a long time because that what was called for in his studio work, and he stuck with it. These day, like others, he has the venue provide a acoustic, or sometimes he travels with one of the hybrid jobs. He can do whatever he wants, as far as I'm concerned. I'm glad that Sonny got rid of the dreaded percussionist. His nephew the trombonist didn't bother me much, as most of the guitarist he's used. I loved Mauso! I have no idea what happened to David Lee ( who also played with Dizzy). It's a mystery.
  21. Sure. It was worth the read. A little disjointed, a little bullshit, a little revealing and a little interesting.
  22. Wonderful! "Martin" on the recording, is Martin Cohen the founder of Latin Percussion and a very nice man.
  23. "It's music made by self-centered [expletives] who get up on stage and say, 'Check this out, look what I can do.' We're not interested in that. We're interested in generous music." That seems like corporate-speak for "We don't want to record you" to the artist, and "We really don't know what we're doing or why" to the public.
  24. I'd like to see what real value Blue Note can bring and what their share or fee will be. Artist Share has been hurting since the introduction of KickStarter and the like. Artist Share used to charge $5000 + for their services, which are few (you get a website page and I'm not sure what else) leaving a very little piece of the pie left over for the Artist unless they sold in good numbers. Many artist have gone the totally independent route, with no distribution to brick and mortar stores and online, or leasing their projects to a label that handles that. The Origin Records system is another alternative where they do all of the sales distribution and media promotion for a percentage.
