  1. I'm reading this now. Some important and not so important dialogues, but I'm only half way through.
  2. Jeff, just a quick thank you from me ( and I'm sure I speak for others here) for your very interesting and very insightful notes on these recordings. It's much appreciated and enjoyed by this boy. Oh yeah, thank you too, Bev!
  3. In recent years he has been the Artistic Director of the 92nd Street Y's Jazz In July series.
  4. I knew "Miss Khadija". She was bassist Steve Davis' wife and McCoy Tyner's sister in law.
  5. I received this info from our friend Ken Dryden, who has quite a archive of the Piano Jazz shows:: Bley, Paul 8/30/03

Yes, I have SOHO Nights Vo.1 and the music is very good. The sound is fine also.
  7. Just checked it out on Spotify, sounds great; Vernell is fabulous; bassist Ed Howard and pianist Kevin O'Connell, a new name to me, are really in there, too. Reaching for the credit card again. Armando from this set is a favorite of mine. As mentioned above The Adventurer is great also along with Glass Bead Games and The Night of the MarkVII The Pentagon by Cedar Walton has some very nice Jordan, too. Firm Roots is another favorite of mine that I must mention.
  8. That's a relief! Happy Birthday!!
  9. Thanks GA! Of course I know this one very well and was at the recording session. Joe wanted to bring the music "home", so to speak. Probably my favorite track is "Dedicated To You" which is done in a a trio of Vibes, Bass and piano. Afterward, Todd Barkan stopped by and showed Ryan Cohan how to play "Bright Moments". Here's a photo that I took:

  14. Actually, I'm listing to something by Eric now. It nice in conservative a mid-60's way and vibe. Mark Turner, for one, is another tenor who came up at the same time, but is a much larger influence among saxophonists, then and now.

  17. It's been fun and informative. Thanks to all for making it so.
  18. Noal is a good friend and I have the book, of course. Noal's professional background is that of a chemist, so he brings some of that discipline to his work. Not a bad thing. He's a exacting discographer.
