  1. Thanks for the heads up. Storyville recordings are available on emusic and iTunes. Dusty Groove has a few Storyville titles as well. Wouldn't be surprised to see them available at those sources at some point.
  2. Is this the same series? http://star-ecentral.com/news/story.asp?fi...8&sec=music
  3. I'm with you there. The ipod + Tivoli radio does wonders at work but my home office is a little lacking since my 70's Harmon Kardon boat anchor shot craps last year. I'm in the market for an integetrated amp + CD unit from one of the UK firms but they rarely come up used here in the States.
  4. Looks like this is already available on Amazon as an MP3 download: Jazz sur la Croisette: Cannes 1958
  5. Hit the local record show this afternoon... pretty anemic selection but walked away with these. Bob Dylan - Street Legal (CD/SACD Hybrid) Bob Dylan - Oh Mercy (CD/SACD Hybrid) Miroslav Vitous - Universal Syncopations (ECM) James Carter - Out of Nowhere (Half Note) Art Blakey - Blakey (Verve Elite Edition)
  6. Re: Sugden - My first "real" amplifier. Yes, the Class A circuitry definitely ran hot... enough to heat that side of my apartment at the time. Perhaps the most tube-like sound I've heard from solid state. I eventually sold it, moved on to Exposure, then on to my current Dynavector electronics. I've considered buying another Sugden for my office system but they're tough to come by in the Midwest.
  7. Shouldn't be a problem. Speaker sensitivity may be a better barometer of compatibility than wattage rating. Just curious, what speakers did you demo the ProLogue 2 with?
  8. Arcam is good kit. May want to check out NAD as well: decent product that can usually be had at discount. Rega is another UK line that provides great bang for buck as well.
  9. Juliet, Naked is a good, fun read. I was enjoying The Enthusiast... until my son vomitted on it Sunday night. Threw it out (haha) and ordered another copy.
  10. Two kids in my daughters preschool were diagnosed the first week of October. Both are fine now. The sibling of one of my wife's students was diagnosed two weeks ago. She passed away. A friend of mine's daughter was diagnosed on Tuesdy. So far so good.
  11. One of my all time favorite album covers. I can't get enough of this LP. I listened to it nearly every day last summer. Great, great stuff.
  12. That may work for CD's but I think you're risking warping your vinyl when stored horizontally. Yes, I agree. I mentioned that I don't keep the CDs/LPs in the boxes. I can understand not making it far enough in to read that Ahhh... I see it now. So you keep the LP's in separate, plain jackets elsewhere?
  13. Crappy OJC pressing of this one... emphasis on crappy. Looks clean but man is it noisy... can vibes by siblant?
  14. That may work for CD's but I think you're risking warping your vinyl when stored horizontally.
  15. Plenty of reissues floating around: Classic, Music Matters, Scorpio, etc...
  16. Lol. You're not alone, Chuck. My seven year old asks, "Why are you spin lips?" every time he sees me online. Thanks for all the well wishes!
  17. Just finished The Song Is You by Arthur Phillips. Now working on Nick Hornby's latest: Juliet, Naked. Just received these two as gifts and have been leafing through them. The Taschen should come with napkins or wipes... anything to wipe away the inevitable drool.
  18. I've just bought a new Compaq laptop with Vista on it and they are doing a 'Windows 7 Upgrade' thingie, supposedly a freebie. The postage & package etc. and media costs £21 for UK users though. What a con ! I will have to bite the bullet though. Wonder what they are charging for this 'freebie' in the US? Check to see if you can download the install files and burn the install CD yourself.
  19. Visited Ear X-Tacy in Louisville two weeks ago.
  20. That might be a tough one... but I bet someone here has one! Now you've got me thinking about scanning & OCR-ing those OBI's...
  21. Great record store in Minneapolis that I first experienced in Las Vegas nearly 10 years ago at their booth in the Consumer Electronics Show. Electric Fetus
  22. I've been running Win7 for a few months and haven't seen a BSOD or even any lockups. I haven't had any compatiblity problems with consumer programs but have had to upgrade work apps (Oracle, soft phone, etc...). Office, Access, Visio, etc... have run just fine. The only drivers I had to download manually were Lenovo drivers which now have published Win7 drivers. I love the integrated search function and am looking forward to enterprise virtualization for apps and network connections.
  23. Judge Reinhold Phoebe Cates Spicoli
  24. Elvin Jones - Midnight Walk (Atlanta Mono) Good stuff. Elvin, Thad Jones, Hank, Dollar Brand, and a few others here. Tracks with both piano and electric piano are interesting.
  25. I travel to Atlanta at least once or twice a month and hit the local record shops on most trips. While Criminal Records doesn't have a huge Jazz selection, they do carry a fair amount of the fancy LP reissues. What they don't have, however, is any tolerance for Starbucks. Read on... Customer drinks wrong coffee, kicked out of record store.
