  1. what was the first blue note to have lamiated cover? I recently bought1508 and was surprised that it wasn't laminated.
  2. some Blue Note covers are referred to as kabuki or some word like that . anyone know what that means ?
  3. I can recommend the Japanese Impulse reissues (MCA) - I have a few of those from Mr Tanno and they sound great ! The domestic/US MCAs are from the 1970s/80s I think and tend to be not so great - I seem to recall that the ones from the 80s are DMM. UK 70s Impulses and Red/Black US second pressings are both worth having though. the GRP reissues from 90's by Wally sound great to me. Impulse stuff
  4. oops... blue label originals sound fine. I just picked up some sealed Chet Baker ones and can't decide to keep them or sell them ...
  5. I have a record on Columbia that features Swedish groups. I will get title for ya
  6. this guy had feedback so people thought he was legit. People pay big money for original pressings in nm condition because they afford the listener a unique experience that cannot be duplicated by later releases or some bs cd remasterings. I have never regretted buying a near mint jazz record... only wish I could buy more. Vintage jazz lps will continue to appreciate, just like great works of art.... cause that's what there are.
  7. anyone have a personal relationship with a bookshelf speaker they can recommend in the under 1 K range? thanks
  8. the one you wanted 6 bills for. can't remember the name but want to find another one. it had good reviews.
  9. I fixed. my first link creation!
  10. still have that other pre amp?
  11. apparently possible fraud. check his feedback. winners pulling out.
  12. next check out HANK JONES RON CARTER TONY WILLIAMS the great jazz trio
  13. Just picked up a two lp set on Verve. This is not usually my bag but this is just superlative stuff. Rather incredible. I never heard Stan play like this. check it out if you haven't ventured into this realm.
  14. thanks for the info Ed!
  15. No. this is the quintets best record. period.
  16. Anyone familiar with this box set? I have a line on one and don't know whether to buy or how much to pay. thanks.
  17. I wish all young musicians read this and particularly the last paragraph. It will help them if they can accept it.
  18. can't remember what I listened to most, but I am ending the year listening to "Incredible Jazz Guitar" by Wes which is one the best recordings I have ever heard. (on vinyl of course).
  19. Yes, they were manufactured for the Capitol Record Club, who apparently sold quite a few. I've also seen Capitol pressings of ABC/Impulse titles. how do they compare in quality of pressing?
  20. I am preparing my list.
  21. people who bought vintage jazz records just five years ago have seen the value of their lps go up substantially. the marketplace is not wrong. those who do not see the value are. the Saxophone Colossus buyer will see his investment go up 50% in 5 years at minimum. Plus he gets to listen to a great recording in its original ( and absolute best) release.
  22. no, most of the records I have bought recently have been not accurately graded. I suprised that established dealers of jazz are giving you the shaft though. If I pay more that 10 bucks I only use PayPal and a credit card for insurance. alot of these wise guys give you a hard time on refunds.
  23. Chet Baker in Paris vol 3, 4, and 5. french reissue but sounds great. music is equal to chet's best.
  24. somehow those of us who buy original blue notes feel they are getting they due.
