I agree. A dedicated mono cartridge is a nice luxury if you've got the bread, but summing the outputs is a much cheaper and nearly as effective a way to go. like alot of what Hoffman says, this is nonsense. How is this exactly "nonsense?" I'm agreeing with others that a dedicated mono cartridge is "better," but it is obviously costlier. Summing the outputs is cheaper and it sounds nearly as good. Like Chuck, you seem eager to criticize and taunt us with your superior knowledge and experience, and yet you're unwilling to back it up with, well, anything of substance. So okay, the floor is yours... why is a mono cartridge better, cheaper, and more mono-y? asked and answered already in this thread. may I suggest getting a mono cart and hearing for yourself? if you don't think it is worth it you can always return it. " nearly as good" in audio is like almost making the first down. and as coach says " you got to fight for every inch".

Looks to be in incredible condition. Lots of these 500 pressings have been coming out of the woodwork of late. We must be up to 499 already. What makes that auction sad is that the record is a CLASSIC RECORDS mono reissue. In the original listing you could see the bottom of the back cover and the OBVIOUS small type at the bottom of the jacket that states the music was owned by Capitol, blah blah blah. I emailed the seller and told him he was sellling a record that could be had BRAND NEW for $30 and he CHANGED the picture and cropped the bottom of the jacket!! He also addes the BS "email from a collector" a the same time. I emailed ebay and warned them that this was a scam, but nothing happened. What a SCUMBAG!! Just looked into that Out ragious made 4.470k on a record by defrauding the public...I hope the buyer gets a chance to return it Should we mail em to help them with what to do or what? In the past i've tried many times to warn high bidders on a dubious or obvious scam. Especially Japanese buyers. They never respond. Only one time, i sent many mails warning a guy that he was bidding 400 on a Stereo ( ) True Blue, of course a scam. Eventually, he won it he send me a mail explaining that "he did not know". For this Mobley, i had doubts, but was in South East Asia for a trip, so forgot about it. Now i'm back, and see the confirmation of the scam... You can see anyway that THOSE "classic" deep groove do not look 100 % accurate... did classic records make lps with two different labels on the same record?

how could she have sung thru those awful guitar sounds? band let her down

I bought a few records from Ron and was underwhelmed by his grading. returned one and got an adjustment on the other.

Those are Leonard Feather's advance copies. I can only imagine what this one will sell for--an advance pressing of something never released? At least a grand, I would think--perhaps much more? who is selling them?

I've taken on the task of getting my sister a pair of speakers to go with her Arcam Solo cd- integrated amp. Now she is considering putting the speakers in the wall above her mantle instead of buying some nice bookself speakers (Epos) to place on the same. I know nothing about the merits or downside of in the wall transducers so if anyone has any experience with these please share.

deep groove exists for this one. label on mine is different than the usual non deep groove ones. According to Popsike.com it has brought same money as deep groove versions so maybe it was released same time as deep groove versions.

got a copy of Kerry Dancers with blue label like the deep groove type but with recessed area bout size of half dollar instead of deep groove. Is this a latter pressing than deep groove type? sounds as good as my deep groove Riversides.

me thinks an original

the label you describe is the predates the red label. Not all pressings have RVG stamp.

I would rather hear someone try to sing jazz than mimic Beyonce. As far as any any conspiracy theory, the production company has a vested interest in having an American Idol that will sell alot of cds. I think they get a piece of the future sales in some way. I do detect that the black dude doesn't dig white chicks singing r&b. Then there's the mindless emphasis on pitch. Most of the singers on the Grammys were off pitch half the time. I nominate myself to replace the macho Brit.
-
Should not be too surprising. How many contemporary jazz artists can we honestly say are "American Idols"? there have been jazz singers that were embraced by the American public, Tony Bennett being most recent example. Its just too bad the judges didn't give this young lady more credit for having the courage to go down the road less traveled.
-
only gal who sang jazz got whacked last nite. the judges are way biased toward black R&B singers. the audience obviously never heard a jazz singer. if jazz isn't dead, the powers that be are sure trying to kill it.

Classic reissues basically are poor compared to originals in all cases I have listened to.

I didn't "get it "until I bought an orignal viny pressing. didn't transfer to cd too good I guess.

The criticism is valid, and on pages 1-3 it was totally warranted.....but it gets a bit "told you so" by the time you arrive at page 6 and have already read my own self-criticisms. Pay pal USA are now saying that they can't retrieve the money from Recordsfornoone's account , announcing that they have "taken action against him". I just hope that this isn't short hand for "Put on a shelf and gradually forget about it" ALL the criteria for pay pal protetion were satisfied by the auctions (not less than 98% positive feedback at the time of the auction, from an accepted pay pal member country which Italy is, brandishing the pay pal protection sign, verified pay pal seller, etc, etc). The presence of pay pal protection was one of the factors that contributed to my decision to bid and pay. There's going to be an almighty scandal if they don't hold their word. If pay pay put their protection stamp onto auctions, obvious scam or not, they must be then follow it through to the end. Otherwise Pay Pal buyer protection means nothing at all - and this is what people will read about in blogs like this and hopefuly in print too, if they do nothing about it. Another factor why I paid is because I had previously filed a claim via paypal and was refunded rapidly with no questions asked - that time there was alot less $ at stake - but this time around the fraud is much clearer. Money talks - and they said it - "insured up to 2000$" just because they can't get the money from his account doesn't seem to mean they would not compensate victims as they promise. did they say that? If so my recommendation is to contact all other victims of this fraud possibly thru jazzguy 43 who has info related to emails and then get a lawyer to act on everyones behalf on payPals case. and ebay ... they will change their tune real fast. I also recommend using a credit card to pay Paypal for an extra layer of protection. when some crook tried to rip me off on ebay , I filed a claim with the credit card company I used to pay BidPay in this case. they reversed the charges. then whey Bidpay came after me, whose logo appeared on all the sellers ebay listings, I told them I would see them in court. I never heard from them again. -
