  1. isn't that the worst? Not half as bad as the bumped-up and aggressive highs of some non-TOCJ Blue Notes in my opinion. To each his own... its like having a bad head cold... Well, those aggressive, shrill-sounding non-TOCJ Blue Notes are giving me bleeding ears and severe headaches - I don't know what's worse... Like I said, to each his own. maybe more like after having a stroke....

  4. sitting on a shelf somewhere...
  5. post this in the audio forum and jim Anderson might respond.
  6. The distortion on the masters is made worse by the compression used in mastering the RVGs. Low level signals such as out of phase ambient signals and spring reverb noise are more prominent because of this. Nessa's harping on mastering variables ignores a fact that every recording engineer working with analog tape knows; the sound deteriorates with every pass of the tape over the heads of the recording machine. And with time. Anyone who thinks any mastering engineer can compensate for 50 years of tape deterioration is mistaken. This is one reason near mint original vinyl continues to appreciate in value.
  7. Share your experiences with the European pressings which came out at the same time as the original domestic releases such as those on the London, Esquire, CBS ect labels. Might be time to go overseas.
  8. the K2s I have just sound like overly compressed stuff that sound louder than regular cds. save your money and get a better stereo.
  9. one of the best reissues of the new millenium. Unreal and unmatched rhythm section. Unbelieveable!

  11. All the more reason to sell your stuff here. so what if you have to take 50% off?
  12. where all New Jazz label covers laminated? I just got a Meet Oliver Nelson lp in the mail and was disappointed that it wasn't laminated like other lps I have in the 8200's such as The Cats and Cracklin. Maybe only the first pressings were and later on they dropped the lamination.
  13. I just picked up a McLean set for $186 on EBAY, quite a difference from Wolff's listed price. I wonder which is the more accurate value of this set?
  14. check this out. I went to the Jazz Record Center to sell a few rare lps. I refused his offer. I am walking down the street a few blocks and for some reason decide to look at the Rouse Blue Note I offered. Inside the sleeve was a Coltrane reissue. A switch had occured ;accidently I am sure. thankfully Fred found the record but you really can't be too careful!
  15. care to name buyer? does his feedback look dicey?
  16. Got a copy of Cohn's Tones on Savoy for 30 bucks. is this rare or valuable? Music is great and pressing is real good also. wish i had a digital camera cause the cover is super.
  17. anyone get me in early?
  18. Hey Jim; How would you feel about a "most common mistakes made by audio engineers" thread. My guess it would be most enlightening. You could add to it as they came to mind at your leisure.
  19. Would someone direct me to a vendor of cardboard cd mailers? thanks
  20. Ascenseur pour l'echafaud French 10" on Fontana for 10 bucks. Sounds amazing!
  21. anyone check this out?
  22. Speak No Evil. Marconi version. Some how it sounds great! Maybe I need a better stereo!
  23. I've seen different reissues of this Coltrane album. Excluding the 60's or 70's ones which one should I get and how much do they go for? thanks (mono original has eluded me for years.)
