  1. How long do Mariner fans have to put up with Milton Bradley??? Just release him already... Police in Los Angeles have arrested Seattle Mariners outfielder Milton Bradley for allegedly making threats against a woman, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday. Bradley, 32, was taken into custody at 10 a.m. local time Tuesday and was taken to the Van Nuys, Calif., jail, where he was booked for suspicion of making criminal threats, a Los Angeles Police Department officer told the Times. Rest of story.
  2. So What off of George Benson's album Beyond the Blue Horizon. Benson's solo is very good.
  3. Don't know if it's true or not, but the Yankees are saying they're not sure if Andy Pettitte will return. I would not be surprised if he comes back for a half season. Also, the Rafael Soriano signing is interesting, obviously the heir apparent to Mo, but also the final nail in the coffin for Joba Chamberlain's Yankee career. I would not be surprised to see Joba traded.
  4. There are some great documentaries on the 30 on 30 series, The Two Pablos was great also, as well as the ones on SMU and the Marcus Dupree one. Some not so good ones in there also. I'm tempted to get the box set of the first fifteen that's out now.
  5. Try to plan for it- become a kid again! Can't speak for Matthew, but speaking for myself, with all of the steroid/etc. stuff that's gone on, I've lost any emotional involvement that I ever had with sports. And at one time, that involvement was very intense. Wish I could become a kid again. Definitely, during the whole Steroid Era I found myself not as involved as before, I just hated the style of the game, and thought baseball was a fraud -- I mean, in what kind of alternate universe does Brady Anderson hit 51 home runs? Even Captain Picard can't repair that rip in the space/time continuum. However, as baseball started to clean up, I became more and more engaged with the game again. I really enjoyed last season, being able to follow the Giants the whole season was a very enjoyable experience. There's just something about the game itself, that I truly love; I cannot remember when I was not following baseball in my life. I can do without the bs that surrounds the game now, but you cannot go back in history to when I first watched the game as a kid, where a player spent his whole career with one team (I would love to see that happen again though). I always thought a trip to the HofF would be the coolest thing in the world. Baseball does have a wonderful and unique history, and that history of the game is something I've always loved and never tired of.
  6. All overblown! Besides, where else are you going to get 12 cd's for $87? I really like these remasters, think the music sounds nice, warm, and clear.
  7. Watching MLB Network's Seasons series, 1971, and it's very good. I hope they put these out on a DVD box set. It's bringing back a ton of memories.
  8. Am I the only one who finds the Josh Hamilton story strange? Story here
  9. Quality of play was not helped by the one year lay-off between Oregon / Auburn's final game and yesterday.
  10. Download of The Complete Capital Recordings of the Nat King Cole Trio for $185.76. Never seen any version of a Mosaic for download...
  11. I'm green with envy about you all getting to visit the Hall of Fame. I'd die a happy man if I ever get to see it.
  12. Hey, Marshawn Lynch's run was great, but the best ever??? Earl Cambell has a dozen runs better than that.
  13. The Big Bang Theory: Season three. Not as good as the other two seasons to my mind.
  14. The Doors by Ben Fong-Torres and the Doors. On a major Doors binge lately...
  15. I do not hate everything about the Yankees, Old-Old-Yankee Stadium is very cool
  16. And now, some hopeful news: Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn has completed an eight-week battery of cancer treatments for a malignant growth in a salivary gland and hopes to resume his duties as baseball coach at San Diego State when the spring semester starts next week. The rest of the story Good luck Mr. Gwynn!
  17. I like Eric Ambler's novels, especially A Coffin For Dimitrois & Judgment On Deltchev. Highest recommendation for the Library of America editions of Raymond Chandler, remarkable how well his writing stands up, and how little LA has changed.
  18. I understand your hatred of Beltre on the basis that he was overpaid/underperformed in Seattle. But jeez it borders on the irrational. Texas isn't all that different from Fenway (in fact, it plays smaller to right-center which is Beltre's power zone) and I expect Beltre to flat out rake for the Rangers - at least for the first few years of his deal. He probably will be overpaid, possibly drastically overpaid, by the end of this contract but after 2011, you won't be able to say he's only had a couple of good years, and only in walk-years. Dan, you're much more sanguine about Beltre than I ever will be. I was lucky enough to be good friends with someone in LA who's been a Dodger season ticket holder since 1958, (second row, in back of the Dodger dugout), and sometimes he would bring me to the games. I witnessed some of the most unprofessional behavior by Beltre during his years with the Dodgers I'd ever want to see from a player. We'll see what 2011 brings, but Beltre is player I have absolutely no use for, I've watched him play too often to be any kind of fan.
  19. When I first heard that song, I said to myself: "Why's this guy ripping off Steely Dan?" Oh youth!
  20. As I listened to BB tonight, I thought: "McLaughlin and Freddie Green aren't that far apart...."
  21. One thing that I always found amazing about BB, is the rhythm of the music. And I'm not talking just about the bass/drum/piano thing either, but when the various instruments come into the music, and leave the field. Very interesting when I pay attention to that aspect...
  22. A Dodger Snuggie Night! April 3, 2011 Dodgers vs. Giants. Maybe the "power of the snuggie" will be with the Dodgers this year...
  23. 1. Milestones. Still the top Miles album for me. On first hearing the song, Milestones, I thought to myself: "This is the happiest song I've ever heard, I must get more of this Miles fellow." Despite finding out that Miles was a less then sterling human being, nonetheless, I'm still captivate my his music and life. 2. Entroducing: DJ Shadow. This album completely blew me away, I had never expected "electronic music" to sound, or have so much heart. I began to listen to that style in a new way. 3. Peter Brotzmann: Never Too Late But Always Too Early. I had never "got" free-jazz (or however you want to label this kind of music) but hearing this turned my mind around to what the real possibilities of this kind of music could be. 4. Sex Pistols: Anarchy in the U.K.: To a loser in High School like me, in a teenage wasteland that was San Diego in the 1970s, I finally found music that spoke to me -- THANK YOU SEX PISTOLS! 5. Harry Smith: Anthology of American Folk Music. Folk music can be interesting? Who knew?
  24. This is for JSngry, Big Al, and all Rangers' fans: You will need it, when, at the end of May, Adrian Beltre will be at .230 batting average, with 3 Home runs, and 15 RBIs. Bletre is notorious for his slow starts, but comes around when the team is out of contention. Look at the bright side, as a Mariner fan, I had to listen, ad nasuem, to Dave Niehaus & Milke Blowers assuring us that "Bletre is a gamer!" If you guys start to hear that from your announcers, run for the hills...
