  1. Great first half. If Wade goes down, LBJ better pick up his game pronto.
  2. Too bad, he was having a good year. I hate the Yankees, but I hate more seeing a player going down with a injury.
  3. I've been trying to get the opening to Smoke On The Water down...
  4. It helped that the Dodgers are now a AAA team. Did you check out Dee Gordon? he looks like he's thirteen years old, and at 150, a strong wind might put him out for the season. The Dodgers are clearly aiming for next year, when the younger players will have a year's experience, and hopefully mature into big league players. The Dodgers offense is truly abysmal right now, it reminds me of Seattle last year, if the other team scores three runs, the games over.
  5. In all these album cover threads, I can't believe that no one has yet to post The Knack's My Sharona cover, I mean, how can you not remember that cover? it was all over my friends dorm rooms in college.
  6. Three box sets: The Style Council: The Complete Adventures of The Style Council The Rubble Collection: Volumes 11-20 The Los Angeles Free Music Society: The Lowest Form Of Music (10 cds). Interesting story. I was holding this box this morning at Amoeba's, and one of the staff comes buy and we start talking, and it turns out that he is Rick Potts! who is a founding member of The Los Angeles Free Music Society, and we had a very nice talk. He was saying that there was a symposium on free music in London about three years ago, and they flew all the members of the LAFMS back there. He still can't believe it. Very nice guy, who I always see working when I go to Amoeba. Well, that's my interesting story for the day.
  7. The two teams don't play again until August 12th. Hopefully, by then, heads will have cooled. Nonetheless, if I was leading off for the Marlins that night, I would expect the Giant's pitcher to buzz my tower. I love the Giants, they have a great spirit about them, but now they're just coming off as whiners.
  8. Nice little three game winning streak by the Dodgers, taking the Rockies last night to move into third place, (and do the Rockies ever look bad right now, worst MLB record for May). Dodgers are still a mediocre team. Matt Kemp is great, carry the team for stretches. Andre Ethier is pretty good, but he has too much of that "too preppy-popping my collar--icing my brahs--I'm too sexy for my shirt--shout out to my frat bros from Duke--love me I'm great" vibe to be one of my favorites. Casey Blake is ok, as well as Robbie Furcal. Starting pitching is picking up; bullpen is shaky. There you have your 2011 Los Angeles Dodgers: two very good players, too decent players, two good starters, one decent one, and the rest are warm bodies. However, no one is going to run away with the division this year, so there's a chance the Blue might still be in the hunt come September... baseball is a funny game
  9. Um. Vin Scully is the [hated] Dodgers announcer. WTF would he care if a Giants guy got injured? Right, because someone roots for another team, they rejoice in injuries.... Plus, we all know what a jerk Scully is... <_<
  10. Vin Scully was discussing the Posey play today during the game, and he mentioned that according to one old time catcher, the mistake Posey made was going down on his knee. Scully said he was told once that happened, the player is very venerable to injury. Makes sense.
  11. Nice shutout by Clayton Kershaw; Furcal hits a homer, Ethier looks like his swing is back, Casey Blake returned to the lineup this series, and the Dodgers are only 5.5 out and no one is going to run away with the division. They might put it together for a run after it's all said and done.
  12. You'd think I would have watched that, but instead, I watched a totally pedestrian game between the Marlins & Dodgers
  13. The Byrds: The Complete Columbia Album Collection. I think I'll get the Sam Cooke next, six albums appearing on US cd for the first time, sounds good.
  14. I think you may be right. I just have such a hard time imagining how anyone could be a Dodger fan. Because the Dodgers are the greatest franchise in the history of baseball.... Can't be, the Cardinals have more W.S. titles than the Dodgers! Yankee titles don't count. Quantity does not equal quality.
  15. I think you may be right. I just have such a hard time imagining how anyone could be a Dodger fan. Because the Dodgers are the greatest franchise in the history of baseball....
  16. They also had the Complete Plugged Nickel at $89.00 recently -- nice to see the set back in print.
  17. I think you may be right. I just have such a hard time imagining how anyone could be a Dodger fan. Yeah, I'm Dodger fan who's been interested in the Giants since going to their games while at school in Berkeley (who also follows the Mariners since I lived in a small town named Stanwood, WA for a couple of years, AND, out of hometown commitment, AND because I wasted my youth watching them, a semi-Padre fan.) On the Posey play: Too bad he got hurt, but I didn't see anything dirty or out-of-line about the play -- you see about twenty of those plays a year. I just hate to see any player get hurt on a play like that, and I hope Posey comes back full strength. My mother is devastated about her "boyfriend" (that is our nickname for Posey, she would call me to tell about any good play by him during a game). Edit: For Spelling
  18. Mike Brown as the new Lakers coach? An unmitigated disaster. Lucky with the lockout, it won't matter in the least.

    Bob Dylan corner

I'd add Every Grain Of Sand & Shooting Star.
  20. No idea what this specifically refers to... Refers to Matt Harrison going along swimmingly, like his head's in a good place, which means he's got his game all the way on, and then out of nowhere walking two and then throwing up a three run gopher ball, anf then immediately thereafter returning us to our regularly scheduled programming, like nothing ever happened. That was extra special because the gopher ball was hit by the 9th place hitter. There are some guys who are just famous for doing what you described, and yet I can't name a single one right now. The brain sometimes has a great way of forgetting pain. Madison Bumgarner pitches like that, goes along great, then BOOM, one inning kills him, so he's 0-6.
  21. Sad news, indeed. Classy guy, well respected by everyone who met him.
  22. I really don't follow. If you want the Heat to lose, why wouldn't doing it in 5 (or even 4) be better? Think ejp626 wants to check out the talent in Miami for the full three games there, just to make sure his HD tv is really working good... All I can ever see is a sea of white in Miami. Props to Chicago for not falling into this "let's all wear the some color" bs. That's okay in high school, but this is the NBA.
  23. You have got to be kidding me? The Yankee front office is mad at Jeter, of all people, because of some innocuous comments he made about Posada? I'm no Yankee fan, but even I know that you don't treat either Posada or Jeter in such a condescending way. Sounds like some of these front office people don't realize that it's the players that win the games, not them.
