  1. It would seem to me as if they should to work out a trade, can't imagine Lee being hunky-dory with all this... Don't get your hopes up. Lee is not going anywhere this season. Maybe in the off season. I've seen estimates from 75 - 90% of all the players in the MLB are put on waivers after August 1st every year. It's just standard operating procedure. It is a wonder that when Lee was signed in 2011, it was thought the Phillies would be up at the top of the East every year. Now it seems as if they can't get rid of him fast enough, things are looking grim for the Phillies for the next couple of years.

  3. Blues and Gospel Train 1964 -- Muddy Waters, Rosetta Tharpe, Sonny & Brownie, etc. Train tour of the UK by Blues & Gospel artists, very interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJwFUp9WTzY&feature=related
  4. You mean you didn't enjoy today's game? Aarrruuugghhh!!! No. Ha! You should talk to my mother, her text to me this morning: "Giants suck"
  5. The Two Escobars. The best of the 30 for 30 ESPN documentary series. Tells the story of Pablo Escobar, the Drug Lord, Andres Escobar, the Columbian soccer player, and how the drug money caused tragedy and death in its relationship with Columbian soccer. Powerful film, with a very interesting cast of characters, and acutely depressing, but very moving also.
  6. From a Michael Keaton interview: Daniel: You worked on Mister Rogers back in 1975, right? What was he like? Michael: Yeah. He was funny, just deceptively funny. So authentic, but also so unusual. I worked on the crew at the local PBS station in Pittsburgh. I was making like $2.25 an hour or something. When you work there, you kind of do everything. And when you did his show, you did everything from pull cable for the cameras, to running the trolley, to dressing up in the black-and-white panda suit for 25 bucks.2 Daniel: Really? Michael: What people don't realize is what his crew looked like — they almost all had hair down to their lower backs, one guy just dripped with patchouli and marijuana smoke, worse than Tom Petty. But everyone was really funny and would do these insane things — and Fred just loved them. And they loved him back. Daniel: So he'd never just lose his shit and scream at a gaffer for getting in the shot? Michael: No! In fact, one time, my friend Nicky Tallo, who was this really funny, big Italian kid who was his floor manager — and I don't think I'm telling tales out of school when I say generally Nick was feeling the effects of smoking dope the night before — or maybe even that morning … Daniel: It was a different era … Michael: So one day, we were taping, and Fred comes in, and starts singing, "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day … " puts the shoes down here, goes to hang up the sweater in the closet. And he's singing, and he opens the door — and there's his floor manager, Nick, this big guy with his long goatee, pierced ears, hair all over the place, totally nude, just standing there naked in the closet. Well, Fred just fell down; it was the most hysterical thing you've ever seen. He was totally cool.
  7. Brett did it naturally! Brett only hit .337 during the playoffs...10 Hr's http://www.baseball-...ostseason::none Bonds .247 9 Hr's http://www.baseball-...ostseason::none Bonds was a terrible hitter in the post season prior to the 2004 run to the WS, so much so that the .247 was a large inprovement built on that season's playoff run. The most amazing / interesting Bonds playoff story I heard over the off season was on MLB TV's "Greatest Games" where they were reviewing the Pittsburg vs. Atlanta series, the one with Sid Bream's "speedy dash" to home plate. Andy Van Slyke was one of the in studio guests (center fielder in that game), and he said that before the infamous single that drove in Bream, he kept motioning to Bonds to play closer to the infield, to make the shorter throw possible. Bonds response: He gave Van Slyke the finger. Watching the reply, it took Sid FOREVER to get to home plate, Bonds probably could have run in with the ball and tagged him out. All those Gold Gloves, and that was the best Bonds could come up with. Edit: To spell Atlanta correctly -- sorry Beri!
  8. Dave Brubeck Quartet's version of "Like Someone in Love." Mostly for Desmond... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RedePifxIw4
  9. Pence was NOT leading the Phillies in hitting w/ his .271 avg. The Phillies leading hitter is Carlos Ruiz at .342. Pence has some pop in his bat w/ 17 homers. Maybe it will work out for the Giants. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery. He certainly played better last season after his trade to the Phillies. But... there are a lot of holes in his game. A good player but not worth the money he's owed. Right-hand power just does not happen at AT&T Park, you have to hit a monster blast to get it out in left field, especially at night, and I can't remember too many being hit out there for this year. So I do not expect big things from Pence in the power department.
  10. I've always liked Schierholtz, and feel that Bochy never handled him correctly, but uses the typical Bochy method of sitting a player for reasons only he understands (exhibit A: Brandon Belt). Can't say I'm too thrilled with Pence either, his style of play if terrible to watch. Edit to make sense
  11. Dave Brubeck: The Columbia Studio Albums Collection 1955-1966. Decided just to go ahead and get it, I've been enjoy Brubeck so much lately, and the price was $100, so I put my wallet on life-support for awhile. Hope it's true that the live albums will come out in the fall.
  12. Maybe, but I get damn sad thinking about her life.....
  13. I had to feed the rock beast in my musical soul with a visit to the downtown Silver Platters in Seattle. The Jesus And Mary Chain: --- Psychocandy (Deluxe Edition) --- Honey's Dead (Deluxe Edition) Donny Hathaway: Live + In Performance (Many thanks to Lon for mentioning this cd -- Thanks Lon! ) Seam: The Problem With Me The Hollies: Clarke, Hicks, & Nash Years (The Complete Hollies April 1963 -- October 1965) The Dave Brubeck Quartet: Jazz: Red Hot & Cool (i'm thinking of getting the Complete Columbia Studio box set, and this is not on it)
  14. This is my favorite Mosaic of all as I find the music endlessly fascinating. The part where Benedetti is playing Bird's part over a recording is creepy, beautiful, sick, and amazing, all at the same time. I feel strange every time I hear those cuts.
  15. Soft and cushy landing for Ichiro provided by that Mariner ownership. With the players the M's got, I hope they also got a box of donuts and a thermos of coffee, to make it worth their while....
  16. Thanks for the reminder re: MANOS. My recollection of the film's score is foggy, but I'm curious to revisit. Anything I know about this film I owe to MST3K, which made MANOS the subject of one of their all-time most memorable episodes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AJVZuQuD6M& (Also, if you've never seen what they do to a little exploitation film called THE BEATNIKS...) Hey! Thanks for the link, I had no idea that full episodes of MST3K were on Youtube.
  17. I keep telling myself to get the Jazz Crusaders. I love that band, and I bet it's great music from start to finish.
  18. Dolan was, is, and always will be, an idiot of the first magnitude. Isiah must be back, giving some of his expert advice.
  19. Or you could say that Houston grossly overpaid for an average PG. I just think people like grousing. Lin has some skills but he is hardly the best or even fifth best player at his position. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect 20-7-6 for the season, and that's not too bad. If he does do those numbers, he can easily be traded in the third year.
  20. I just knew Dolan would make the worst decision possible.... Jim Dolan just made one of the dumbest moves of his basketball life, which is saying a mouthful. The owner of the New York Knicks, who has spent years wearing a "Kick Me" sign on his back, just kicked out the Madison Square Garden door a promising 23-year-old point guard, a player who averaged 18 points and eight assists the one time someone in the NBA decided to start him instead of fire him.... Rest of the story
  21. MC 900 FT Jesus: Bill's Dream. Very jazzy and cool.
