  1. And you wonder what's it's like covering the Lakers:
  2. Any thoughts on The Golden Years of Soviet New Jazz? I've always been intrigued by these box sets.
  3. I know you shouldn't overreact after one game, (but I'm a Laker fan, so that's my speciality) but OKC does not look the same without Harden, and having to depend on Westbrook for intelligent play??? Good luck with that one, maybe that Sonics Karma is finally coming around.
  4. Pascual Perez dies in home invasion robbery. Sad news. Good pitcher, of course, as a Padre fan, I mostly remember him for the infamous Padres brawl with the Braves. Found a report on the brawl, it was as wild as I remembered
  5. Big p.i.a. that the Lakers are now on Time Warner Cable and I have DirectTV, so I can't watch the games. What a rip off. Mike Brown will be leaving shortly -- I hope. Eddie Jordan is supposedly Kobe's man, and if fact, on NBA TV last night, someone was saying this whole "Princeton Offense" is Kobe's idea.
  6. Lakers lose their opener. Dwight Howard 3-14 from the free throw line - thanks Superman. Steve Nash was looking lost running the offense and had a big turnover late in the game, Kobe was a nice 11-14 in his shooting, but no free throws even attempted, and nothing from the bench. Mike Brown should start making early vacation plans... I'm still wondering if Howard will sign with the Lakers when it's all said and done, he can walk away at the end of the season. Just your typical NBA point guard:
  7. Just another story to the add to the A. J. Elliis legend
  8. Is is just me, or is there no way to search for an artist or album on this app?
  9. I agree. However, it was a great reading with lots of poets in attendance. Eventually, an audio will be streaming on Moe's website. David: I was never able to find an audio of this event. Did Moe's ever post it on their website?
  10. Where Josh Hamilton goes will be interesting, from all that I've read, the Rangers don't want him back, and I imagine any contract he does sign will have clauses galore in case of a relapse. It seem to me that there's too much milage on his body, and very heavy baggage he's carrying to any team that signs him. Tim Lincecum will be fascinating because he needs to change his approach after a disastrous regular season. There were indications toward the end of the season that the Giants coaches and front office were getting tired of him always going his own way in terms of weight, training, off day throwing, warm up routines -- no one wants to pay 22 million for a head case that's not any good. Brian Wilson will be making a comeback, and who knows about him, all I know about him is that his act of "look at me, I'm soooooo offbeat!" routine is getting very tiresome. Giants also have to figure out who they will re-sign in the infield as Theriot and Scutaro will be free agents, and I don't see both coming back. Huff will also go, and the have to make a decision of Freddy Sanchez. The Dodgers will be average next year, they don't have the players, and all these former Red Sox players are the very definition of useless. Edit for spelling
  11. The Doors: Live At The Bowl '68. Very good quality, digging it tremendously.
  12. Those old San Diego Padres keep cropping up, and don't forget the third base coach, Tim Flannery (he's even a Deadhead). Not only do I love the Giants winning the Series, but that the National League seems to be ascendant over the Junior Circuit (does anyone use that phrase anymore for the American League?), thus proving Heywood Broun's point: Tradition carries a nasty wallop. Get rid of the DH. PS: This is really amazing thing about the Giants winning two pennants in three years: Over the past 90 years, only three other National League franchises have pulled that off -- the 1975-76 edition of the Big Red Machine, the 1963-65 Dodgers and the 1942-44 Cardinals.
  13. Never thought the Giants would sweep, but they did. Panda and Zito did nothing in the 2010 Series, and now they're heroes -- baseball is a funny game.
  14. Not yet.... Giants still trying to lose this game.
  15. Even though I'm listening to the Giants radio guys, I really dislike this interviewing players while the game is going on, it cheapens the game.
  16. I was doing a funeral once, and come the end, when the eulogies take place, the Aunt of the deceased came up, said a few words, then pulls out of hiding a six pack, snaps one off, cracks it open, chugs it down, and then places the other five in the casket.
  17. GOOD GOSH ALL MIGHTY!!!! The Steeler's "Throw Back" jerseys are the ugliest things in existence!
  18. Many thanks for the birthday wishes! I've spent most of the day driving, as I'm making my way up to Mount Angel, OR. This is a great place with great people.
  19. I can see that, but Posey is a such good catcher, and those are hard to come by, though it is interesting that Posey now no longer catches Lincecum, and there have been rumblings about how he calls a game. OTOH, Cain loves pitching to Posey and says he rarely shakes him off. Plus, Brandon Belt is starting to come on as a player at First. So, what I'm saying is that your guess is as good as mine.
  20. + throwing those unhittable 70mph curve balls.  He's kind of becoming the rich man's Bill Lee.... his daddy, torrie, was a bigtime, and very very good, conducter/ arranger.  Are you sure about that? I never heard that mentioned, though that would be cool because the Giants already have a major music connection where Bruce Jenkins, a well know San Francisco sports writer, is the son of Gordon Jenkins. Zito pitched great last night. There are times when, completely out of the blue, Zito pitches a gem, and last night was one of those, he best game as a Giants. As Goody says, it one game at a time now.
  21. + throwing those unhittable 70mph curve balls.  He's kind of becoming the rich man's Bill Lee....
  22. yankee fans on new york talk radio are near suicidal, blaming everyone in sight and wanting to get rid of them.  Bunch of spoiled whiners. Win the WS or you're nothing to them. Wow. may i extend precondolences, goody? last evening, the gigantes looked nearly as inept as this years feeble incarnation of the legendary pinstripers. You won't get an argument from me. Go hard or go home time. Yeah, the Giants looked like a beat team last night, no spark at all. It will be interesting to see what Lincecum does in the off season, he is notorious for going his on way in terms of conditioning, his pitching mechanics, etc. It's clear he needs to bulk up, and get a new approach -- whether he does that or not might tell the tale of a athlete on the downside of a great career.
