  1. Talk about karma! I'm listening to your first radio program about Nina Simone now! Spooky
  2. A 50 cent piece will give you much better sound, cheap-skate!
  3. My system: Tuner: NAD c420 Digital Front End: Denon 2910 & NAD c541i Amplification: NAD C 320BEE Speaker System: Dynaudio Audience 52 It works well for me since I don't listen to music in a large room. The speakers are very good, and for some reason, brass instruments sound cystal clear. I bought the Denon about six months ago and I use it mostly for SACDs, though, if I had it to do over again, I think I should have stayed with just the NAD c541i, which is an excellent on redbook & HDCD. SACDs are nice, but the price is so high I don't buy that many.
  4. I decided to order the J.J. set this morning, my first Mosaic box set purchase in three years. After three years of buying nothing from Mosaic, this week I bought all the singles and now this one. Yikes! What's happening to me.
  5. Well, I closed my eyes and ordered all of these this morning. I really like the idea behind the "Mosaic Single CD" idea, gives Mosaic a lot of flexibility in what they can release. Now, if they would start to release some of Braxton's Arista records, now that would be great.
  6. I always find Old such an interesting song, it has an unique quality that is hard to describe -- it's one of Mitchell's best works. Come to think about it, Oh Susanna is another take on the old/new angle that is hard to beat.
  7. XTC fans being the lone exception, of course! Damn straight!
  8. Needed to complete my Joe Pernice collection: Scud Mountain Boys - Early Year Scud Mountain Boys - Massachusetts Big Tobacco Chappaquiddick Skyline Australia Tour EP
  9. Disk two today, it really is my favorite Mosaic..... ahem..... it's also my only one
  10. The Mariners are looking a lot better right now. I can't believe how bad Adrain Beltre is hitting though. .500 baseball doesn't look like an impossibility.
  11. Hey, the M's rule!!!!! Let us wollow in the glory of the moment! King Felix wasn't that great last night but he'll improve with more innings.
  12. I get most of my books through Amazon.com, will they credit Organissimo for those?
  13. The two best twenty year-old baseball players I ever saw play: Doc & Cesar Cedeno. Both threw away their talent.
  14. See where Dwight Gooden received a year-and-one-day jail term. What a sad waste of talent. TAMPA, Fla. -- Former baseball star Dwight Gooden was sentenced Wednesday to a year and a day in prison for violating probation by using cocaine. The 41-year-old pitcher was serving three years of probation for speeding away from a police officer during a drunken driving stop. He admitted last month to a probation officer that he had used cocaine. As part of his probation, Gooden had been ordered to stay away from alcohol, drugs and bars, and to submit to a minimum of three random urine tests a week. He also spent two months in an inpatient treatment facility for alcohol and drug addiction. Gooden was the 1984 Rookie of the Year and 1985 NL Cy Young winner while with the New York Mets. He went 194-112 with a 3.51 ERA before retiring in 2001. He also pitched for the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. During his playing days, Gooden was suspended for 60 days in 1994 for testing positive for cocaine while with the Mets. He tested positive for cocaine again while on suspension and was sidelined for the 1995 season.
  15. Broke down and bought Billie Holiday: The Complete Verve Master Takes from Yourmusic. Price is just too good to pass on.
  16. The Complete Verve Johnny Hodges Small Group Sessions. I can't express how much I love this set. Music from heaven. It's always been my favorite Mosaic.
  17. Just starting to get into David Halberstam's The Best and the Brightest. Scary how the same mistakes are occuring now as in the past. Forward into the past I guess. Also saving two Eric Ambler's for my week vacation in April (waiting in airports and on airplanes): The Light of Day & Passage of Arms. I'm hooked on Ambler for some reason.
  18. I've been thinking about getting this from Yourmusic, and you're making harder to say no.....
  19. Bring this up for air. Anyone have any thoughts on this set now that it's out? Sound quality? Booklet? Thinking of getting this soon (CD Universe, of course!). on the edit: Is this box set legit? I saw it a Tower Records in Seattle recently.
  20. The Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band Glenn Miller is so cool.
  21. The Complete Glenn Miller. Bluebird's 13 cd box for $38.50 off Ebay.
  22. Heck, now Bonds is 7-9 in spring training, couple of dingers. I don't think he'll go quietly in the night this year. I will be interesting to see if he can play in the outfield at all -- he just might wind up on firstbase.
  23. After I recommended The Sign of Jonas, I decided to read it myself and found that I was turned off by Merton's constant stream of camplaining -- it rubbed me the wrong way this time. I still find the section after his ordination interesting, with the "Fire Watch" being one of the better things he wrote. I'll have to get the Journals one of these days. PS: Hi, I just took a break from the Big O for awhile.....
