  1. Don't panic! Only 3 games. Weren't the Mariners in first place last year after the first week? Ouch!
  2. No, Pineiro was a starting pitcher who was terrible -- and he looked worse in the pen. His ERA was 6.36 No, he was better in the pen, with an ERA a hair over 4. He also showed better velocity in short stints (93-94) and better results in first innings than later innings. Its a risk, and I'd rather have Timlin and Donnelly as the primary 8th inning guys, but Piniero may surprise some people. Re: Baseball Fans. We all drink our favorite teams Kool-Aid.

  4. The Red Sox have Joel Pineiro in the pen -- you're in trouble.
  5. It's official: Barry Bonds will be wearing #42 on April 15. I'm speechless.
  6. Mariner's still have the best record in baseball! They'll be in Cleveland on Friday, hear the weather will be on the cool side.
  7. The Mariners yesterday proclaimed their love the What It Is. This sign actually appeared after Richie Sexson's home run. Long live the funk.

So far good in terms of the cds that I've heard off the set. Right now I'm listening to In Concert that has Steve Lacy, Kent Carter, and Andrea Centazzo. Very nice. I usually don't like Lacy all that much, but this cd is one I'm enjoying a lot. Kent Carter especially is impressing me with his playing and interaction with Lacy.
  9. If you're going to school on a athletic scholarship, you are getting paid in your tuition, and at lot of schools, that's $30,000+. Colleges make way more money off the normal, everyday student, who get gouged right and left in different fees that athletes don't have to worry about. Besides, we're really talking only about two sports that generate any kind of revenue: Football & basketball, and they gobble up most of the revenue also. Just my personal opinion but I don't think there should be any athletic scholarships in colleges, period.

Consider it an achievement that you shelled out for it. I have no doubt that quite a bit of what's included on those records is very good--but talk about steep. I find it ironic that the box is still the cheapest way to hear a lot of those albums. One of my favorite LA record shops was carrying an Ictus for $50 (unfortunately for me, it was the last one--the shop owner said a "couple of Japanese guys came in and bought up all the weird jazz--dropped about $300."). Total price for the set, including S/H was $100.00, which I considered a steal since the set is brand new, and the individual cds are going for $15.00-$18.00. I'm really enjoying the music on the set, very interesting and some of it is just beautiful.
  11. Mariners have the best record in baseball! Seriously, Hernandez was a complete monster today. He looks ready to have a major season. Very impressive.
  12. It's a good day to stay inside to watch baseball because it's SNOWING here in northern Washington. What the heck?
  13. Great day today, full slate of game on tv. First game I'm watching is the Yankee game, then on to the M's vs. A's, (holy cow, it's hailing in Stanwood right now), then a evening game. Life is good at times.
  14. Just the five listed for the March release. Also has an extra cd with "rare" cuts on it. Most people want the first and last set, the middle one, *yawn*.
  15. The good new is that the first set is starting to ship. I was able to order the SACD box set off of HMV Japan for a cool $128.00, which is a steal compared to European and American prices. Heck, the sacds aren't even being released in the USA. Of course, people at the Steve Hoffman are already flinging around the usual insults. Compressed! Too loud! Nick Drake should be arrested and put in jail for the rest of his life!! (I made that one up ). Should be interesting, I have a stupid weakness for Wind & Wuthering.
  16. I had a real April Fools this morning. My alarm clock is one of those that sets DST automatically; well, of course it sets it for today, so instead of getting up at 5:00, I just discovered that it's really 4:51 a.m. Life sucks at times.

I received my Ictus 30th Anniversary Box yesterday. Was anyone else afraid to open the cds? Hate messing up the beautiful band around the cd. Music is very nice also. Mine is #290. How many set were made? Highly recommended.
  18. See where the Yankees named Carl Pavano as the opening day pitcher. This should be interesting, can you imagine what it would be like if he bombs out? I wonder who'll land on the DL first: JD Drew or Pavano?
  19. The California Here I Come music is outstanding, as will as the, as yet, unreleased cuts of this trio that you will find on the Complete Verve Recordings. I heard a rumor that the entire live recordings were put out on two cds, released only in Japan (of course).
  20. Where your really hear the U2 influence is with Contemporary Christian Rock -- every other band has the U2 sound. Yuck! The Kings of Leon are pretty cool, I saw them open for Dylan when he came to Seattle. I liked.
  21. If you have a really good site for your favorite team, that's great also. It's all good. Here's the site I go to first for Seattle Mariner news.
  22. For all you Andy Partridge/XTC freaks out there. His new cd is up for ordering. Monstrance has Andy with Barry Andrews & Martyn Barker, and it should be interesting. From what I understand it's all instrumentals, with a ambient feel to it. All ready ordered my signed copy.
  23. I've been listening a lot to the Bill Evans / Gary McFarland sessions, and it's been interesting. McFarland presents Evens very nicely, and keeps making interesting musical choices, with Richard Davis being a very solid foundation. McFarland's not the greatest vibe player ever, but he makes his playing fit the music. Evans & McFarland seem very simpatico, and if you're interested in arranged jazz with strings, this is a standout. CD goes by the titile of The Gary McFarland Orchestra With Special Guest Soloist Bill Evans. I think I read somewhere it's not available domestically, but if you find it somewhere, buy it.
