After reading Jim reply to my email, and seeing what he wrote here, I'm back on board. Like everyone else, I just didn't want to add stress to a family. But it seems as if everything is working itself out, so I'm in and sent a donation also -- buy your family a special night out with the extra money, you've earned it Jim.

Jim, it was a great ride for these four years, but I also think it's time to pack it in now. Even if Jim decides to change his mind, it won't be the same. It's been great reading all the great information and posts everyone, I'll remember this experience fondly, thanks for everything, but I'm gone.

Why not stay and talk about the Dead with the guys in this forum? Because we won't be here come Jan 1, 2008. :(

That's what Jim said. Sad if true, but maybe it is time to move on. Why should he and his family feel burdened by this obligation? The happiness of his family, and their financial stability comes first.

Can anyone recommend a good Grateful Dead Forum, I'd like to have a site where I can talk about the Dead until I'm sick of 'em.

I'm not particularly impressed with Pettitte/Mussina/Kennedy in that rotation. I think Pettitte & Mussina can't last a half season, much less than a full season. Santana and Wang would be a good 1 & 3 pitchers on the staff, outside of those two, I don't see too much. Don't bother asking about the Mariners -- anyone need an overpriced, slow first baseman, who can't field his position?

I'll just say that I have my doubts that someone born in 1971 was able to see 153 Dead concerts... though he kind of looks like a Deadhead.

I'm finally listening to the Dead's run at Winterland of June 7, 8 & 9 1977, and enjoying it very much. Garcia is in very good form, and the SDBs are in great shape -- this is definitely a candidate for a full-blown box set treatment, if Rhino is into the kind of stuff anymore. Almost tore my hair out trying to convert the June 8 show from a Shn. file to Wav. Flac I can do, but that Shn. stuff had me stumped there for a couple of days.

While we are on the topic of downloading: Does anyone know of a good, free, Shn file > Wav. converter program? I've tried mkwACT, but I can't figure out all the extra steps for XP setup. PS: Never mind, I finally figured the stupid thing out this morning.

Honestly, there is nothing new that is being released this season. How can the majors complain about sales when they don't put anything worth while out? Jazz & Rock especially are yawn inducing in their releases (well except that Brotzmann Die Like A Dog box set), if it wasn't for wanting to complete my Grateful Dead collection, I wouldn't be buying anything this season. Next year, I fear, is going to be the year the cd died.....

I've been downloading concerts off of various web-sites, and sometimes it takes awhile to download. I've downloaded for more than twelve hours to get a show. You're going to have to get a Bit torrent program, I use BitTorrent, I find that it's easy to use, and the new 6.0 program is very good. ABC BitTorrent is another program that's good. I haven't download off Dead.net, but Lon has, so maybe he'll pipe in with his thoughts. I'm really enjoying downloading the various concerts, there are some outstanding quality d.l.s out there, so buy yourself a couple of hundred blank cds, and have fun.

Beyond The Who Sell Out, Live at Leeds, Tommy, and Quadrophenia, my interest in The Who plummets. This is one band where the above four albums, and a good compilation, is all a person needs. Of course, YMMV .

You know how there are some artists you just don't get all the praise they receive? for me Turrentine is one of those. I must have pig-iron ears because I've never liked his tone, his approach, or his timing. Yes, I know, a lot of what we hear is personal to ourselves, but for me, Turrentine is not even third tier. People here really like his tone? I always considered it weak, and I found a lot of his solos uninteresting. This really is a case where YMMV.

Just got mine yesterday with the bonus cd. I'm listening to Franklin's Tower, Wharf Rat>I Need a Miracle>Bertha>Good Lovin' that ends disk one. Not too bad, though at times Mydland keyboard sounds like a $2.00 Casio -- really bad. I hope Road Trips do get around to whole shows, maybe some of the '72 European shows not out yet. After listening to both cds and the bonus cd, I would rate Road Trips as a below average Dead cd. That's the bad news, the good news is that Road Trips can only get better, right? I can't say I've been too impressed with what Rhino has done since they've taken over the Dead catalog.

Dude, I grew up during the '70s, so, yes, I do know....... Call me cynical, but I wonder if the "broken fingertip" is code for: "We suck now and we need some more time to practice and get our sh** together."?

Lots of conflicting/mixed messages there.... Holy Cow That's out on cd now! :excited: I've been looking for years for a copy of Seasons because of this AMG review: Review by Richard S. Ginell and Thom Jurek This LP, hailed at the time of release and promptly forgotten, is Pete Jolly's masterpiece, a wonderfully emotional electronic tour de force. With the exception of one cut, it was completely improvised in a single four-hour session in the studio by Jolly and a superb, versatile rhythm section: drummer Paul Humphrey, guitarist John Pisano, and the ever-present Chuck Berghofer on bass (with Milt Holland and Emil Richards contributing as well). Jolly plays not only acoustic piano, but Wurlitzer electronic piano, accordion, musette, Sano Vox and the Hammond B-3. Minimal overdubbing was done later. "Seasons" unleashes Jolly's imagination, and he creates a marvelous tapestry of sound that both moves the listener and swings spontaneously. Beautifully produced by Herb Alpert -- who brought him to A&M -- the record is structured as a continuous suite -- with only the side break on the LP interrupting the flow -- and it comes to an exciting, carefully graded climax on "The Indian's Summer," with Jolly pounding the grand piano and a sudden burst of big band fireworks courtesy of Bill Holman. It doesn't end there however, as the closing cut, a near nostalgic weeper cum slippery little funk number called "Pete's Jolly" attests, sending it out on a fingerpopping note. There is arch humor in tracks like the scurrying "Bees" and the sauntering "Plummer Park" (which has been sampled plentifully by the hip-hop generation and contains the tight popping jazz funk that defined the CTI label, as does the last tune on the LP side, "Springs"), the vivid tone painting in "Rainbows" and "Sand Storm," and the aching beauty in "Autumn Festival." Roger Nichols' wistful "Seasons" and the sole standard on the album, "Younger Than Springtime," fit seamlessly into the fabric of Jolly's improvisations, and he uses "Springtime" as a recurring motif. Nothing from his earlier recordings could prepare the listener for this record, and he did nothing comparable until his death in 2004. [in July of 2007, Chicago'sDusty Groove imprint reissued the disc on CD. The transfer is fine indeed with warm, immediate, full-range sound.]

Still can't believe what a mess Thomas & Marbury turned into. The story that came out of New York a week ago just seems too far-fetched to be believed. Thomas has the team vote on Marbury, saying if just one person votes against Marbury playing, Marbury sits. The whole team goes against Marbury and Thomas ignores it and plays Starbury any way. Unbelievable, if true. What a way to run a team. Edit: spelling

How much longer are the Knicks going to let Thomas remain the coach? Talk about a team/franchise is free-fall. Thomas should have been fired the day after the verdict in the sexual harassment case.

I just noticed you've gone on a diet and lard free! (Talking avatars here.) I have lots of Tyvek sleeves with window & flap that I bought for trading & storage. I like how they don't scratch discs, and if you spill water (or booze) on them they hold up. You can also make a 4.75 x 4.75 inch setlist, and if you do it right most if not all can be seen through the window. After buying a box of slim cd cases, I'm now leaning to the Tyvek sleeves for my next purchase. Like the idea of a small set list in the window, less room being taken for storage, and rubber banding a set together. I might start pricing an external HD, and see if there's any sales going on.

That helps a lot. I'm still thinking about how I'm going to do all of this.
