  1. Albert Pujols, I must admit, is a surprise to me -- he's such a talent, he doesn't need to juice up. Least surprising: Brady Anderson. Yeah, those 50 homers in 1996 came off skill.
  2. Its also being reported that "several" high-profile Yankees will be named also. That leaves me hoping that at least a few Red Sox players, past or present, will be identified as well, because otherwise there will be Yankee fans pointing to the fact that Mitchell never resigned from the Board of Directors of the Red Sox and say that it resulted in a biased report. Personally I think its bullshit but Selig and Mitchell foolishly allowed him to keep his position when the appearance of impartiality is crucial to the acceptance of the report. As for Roger, there were certainly more than a few rumors, and he did go from the pudgy "twilight of his career" to a remarkable resurgence (and a huge gain in his physique). The question now is, how does it effect his Hall of Fame candidacy, since its pretty clear he's through playing? According to the report, he received steroids from the trainer while he was a Yankee and "before" - was that before period when he was with Toronto or with Boston? It kind of makes sense that it was Toronto - Duquette's comments stung, Roger knew he had to improve his fitness to get back on top, steroids were all over the game, its hardly surprising if he started using at that point. You could make a good argument that if the steroid report is true, and if he started in Toronto, then there would have to be a serious re-evaluation of his career and HOF credentials. I don't think Roger was a sure fire HOFmer when he left Boston. PS: New dog Dan?
  3. Looks like the Mitchell bloodbath is starting: Roger is going down......
  4. I read that Fukudome has been compared to J.D. Drew. As soon as I read that I heard Matthew & Noj snickering. One site noted he hit a little lighter in Japan than Godzilla (the Yankee) and is a little older than when Matsui made his US debut. So I suppose that comparison might be fair, as long as you don't include the baggage. The Astros for Tejada looks deal looks like a lot of junk, though I say that without cracking the Prospectus so it's ill informed. But it almost looks like it's factored in that he made the Mitchell report. He could put up some pretty heady numbers hitting in that dopey lil' ballpark. As for Rowand, while I can't imagine he'll be experiencing many wins anytime soon, he's a west coast guy, and he'll have a lot of money to spend in a beautiful town. There are worse things than to be young & rich in San Francisco. Fukudome like JD? $5.00 says JD goes on the DL first, and double if JD does it in spring training. I bet Drew is milking his grand slam for all it's worth this winter. Loser.... I'm always in mid-season form when it comes to JD.
  5. I would hope that Houston at least looked at the Mitchell Report before trading for Tejada, if not, they might be regretting that trade tomorrow evening...
  6. You know, talking about Led Zeppelin on this thread is making me miss Mnytime... again.
  7. I doubt that the aud tape is going to be still up this evening, word to out that sites are starting to pull it down. So if you want it, move now.
  8. I know "somebody" whose listened to this aud and says it doesn't sound half bad. I'll have to get the cd/dvd when it comes out.
  9. It doesn't surprise me but I think that the writers are just looking for something to report. I am kind of surprised that they can't sweeten the deal with a fourth prospect to get it done, but maybe there's a chance of a really terrific Christmas present in the next two weeks. Thats what Felger said last night, he thinks the Twins are trying to bait the yankees back into the deal and are using the Sox. He also said which is a good point , if the Sox really want to complete this deal they would just put in lester with ellsbury and prospects. That should get the deal done . Felger also said that Masterson is really just a middle relief guy ???.....I thought this guy was suppose to be a future ACE ? I wonder if the Yankees are thinking about how high their payroll can go. With ARod's salary, then Santana's, plus the re-signings, their payroll has to be sky-high, even for them. I'm also think everyone is waiting for the Mitchell report to come out tomorrow. Any signing will take second place to that for awhile.
  10. I have my computer set so all backgrounds are black, even internet site. The Organissimo is very cool looking in black.
  11. Ha! Just so. gdogus: Dude! Welcome back!
  12. Re: Pigpen. I know, I know, I tend to bash Pigpen way too much. I hereby resolve that in the year of 2008, I, Matthew, will not say a discouraging word about Pigpen. My days of dumping on the poor guy will be ending, and I will even strive to listen to his music with a more attentive ear.
  13. Went to get my mail today, and Lo! what do I find but The Deadhead's Taping Compendium Volume 1. Good gravy, but there's a ton of stuff in this, and interesting stuff at that. Was able to get a pristine copy of $20.00 -- I'm going to be digging this one a lot over the years.
  14. My two are: Steve Lacy / Roswell Rudd Quartet: Early and Late Perry Robinson: The Soul in the Mist.
  15. My two favorites: Sea and Sand & The Kids Are Alright.
  16. Amazon.com has the street date as December 20 -- hopefully 2007.
  17. It's always said in her defense that they didn't have proper monitors for her, so she couldn't hear herself. (Have I set up a joke or what?) She sure did alright on Elvis's "Suspicious Minds" and the Pure Jerry release (Warner, 3/18/78.) Okay, the defense rests. But yeah, there's some damning evidence out there. I think that it is interesting how much better Donna sounded with the Jerry Garcia Band than with the Dead. It's also interesting to hear how much better at times Jerry Garcia was with the JGB than the Dead... Listened to DP 4 tonight. I know people rave about this one, but I was underwhelmed. Didn't think Dark Star was all that much, and Lovelight? When McKernan went into his rap, I went and folded my laundry.
  18. Reading Willa Cather's The Troll Garden. Cather is one of those writers that I didn't think too much of in my younger days, but now, I find there is a lot more depth to her work than I ever thought. On a side note. I love this section about Cather from the chronology section in the LOA edition for 1888: Interest in science leads to experiments with dissection and vivisection, attracting criticism from neighbors. Enters in friend's album her ideal of happiness as "amputating limbs" and favorite pastime as "slicing toads." Willa was tough.
  19. I hope there is one. If the show sucks, we can get it for free as a boot! I have a feeling this show is going up on various sites five minutes after the "unexpected" encore of Stairway to Heaven.
  20. I can understand that. Probably Donna in person was a different experience than hearing her thirty one years later. Live it would've been okay, with the ambiance, music going, and some stuff that made everyone feel mellow .
  21. Listening to DP 3, my gosh! is there anything worse than Donna singing Sunrise?
  22. So, let's talk about the Grateful Dead... oops, wrong place. Actually, I like this idea, I've never "gotten" classical music in my life, so I might learn something here --- now that's a scary thought.
  23. Grateful Dead: --- Two From The Vault. --- Terrapin Limited. --- Fallout From the Phil Zone. This last purchase completes my collect of all the official cds out there, except for the 10 cd Complete Fillmore West 1969, which I'm hoping someday will come down in price, or Rhino will re-release it next year. Now it's time to get serious on the concerts.
  24. I've decided to go through Dick's Picks in order (Oh, don't ask why), and I want to throw out much love for Dick's Pick Vol. 2, Columbus, Ohio - 10/31/71. For some reason, I've always loved this unpretentious volume, only a single disk, which makes it get over looked at times, but the music here is wonderful. The up tempo thing that comes out of Dark Star going by the name Jam; that is so good, I l-o-v-e it to death. A lot of great playing here.
  25. I'm still stubbornly refusing to do so. One, because I've trade for that show 3 times already. Two, I'm still hoping for an official-ized box. If they ever do it may be that the fans may end up having a better sounding copy through unofficial means. Still, the main reason I want the box is to get rid of some cruel cuts on 11-9 & 11-10. You guys really need to download the new Charlie Miller pitch corrected version of 11/11/73, it sounds great, nice and clear, and of course, the boys are on fire on this one
