  1. It got overlooked but I noticed that Dominic DiMaggio died Friday, was supposed to be a very good player in his day. On to something else: The Mariners looked so bad yesterday, with Beltre looking especially terrible, it was like he left his brain at the hotel. Plus Felix Hernandez looks like he ready to call it a season already. The Mariners should trade these two and at least get some people who want to play.
  2. I had some time to read on my recent trip, and so I read Handling Sin by Michael Malone. It is a wonderful book that is about life and death, family and isolation, God and religion, father and son, what it means to belong to a family, about friendship, about how we shut down in life, about handling sin in our lives -- in other words, about life. The characters are people that you care about, and you don't want the trip that is at the center of the book to ever end. Highly recommended.
  3. Yeah, the past few season haven't been too good. The way the writers have let the characters become dumber and dumber is not too good. Elliot has become a mindless dope, who says the lamest feel-good crap ever, JD has no self respect, and the other people don't come off great either. Still, something about the series stuck with me and it has become my "comfort food" for stress busting. I have all the DVDs, I watch them in order, and I'm on my tenth go-round watching them all. Zack Braff is insufferable, and a lot of the complaints and observations are true, but I still keep watching. Now what my love for Scrubs, and my love for Cecil Taylor has to do with each other, I don't know. I'll let the Chewmister explain that one to me.
  4. No problema, after all, it is just a tv show. I dislike Scrubs also at first, but then I saw the episode My Screw Up (the best episode in the series to a lot of fans) and I said to myself: "This show needs to be looked into," and I was hooked ever since. It is a series you either love or hate.
  5. My all time favorite tv show ended this week. I was able to catch up on the last four episodes this morning since I missed them because of a business trip, and thankfully, the final episode was very good. What I liked best was that it was open ended, with no strange twists taking place, just leaving the characters is a good place for us. Scrubs is the only tv show I really felt a close attachment to, where the characters were interesting, and I was drawn to their lives. I was sad to see this show end, but I have the dvds to watch from now on. But it's over. *Sigh* I really loved Scrubs.
  6. Well, the Mariners are now Your Second Place Seattle Mariners, at least they're still .500. And, WTH??? Manny gone for 50 games??? Manny is really being Manny this time.
  7. I want to announce that I'm leaving also! Well, actually, I have to go to Europe for some dumb meetings. See everyone in the middle of May, and may the Mariners still be in first place when I get back.
  8. Keep posting them! It's hard when a longtime announcer passes, you listen to them for so long you feel a bond to them. Everyone expects this to be Vin Scully's last year, and I can't imagine a Dodger game without Scully. It's hard for me to believe, but I'm 50, and I've listened to Scully all my life. The Dodgers, without Vinny, are not going to be the same. It's like the Lakers, without Chick Hern, it's just not that same.
  9. The point is: Musicians/artists do terrible things in life, but their art should still be enjoyed.
  10. Even though I don't like what Beckett did, and he strikes me as a little too "figjam" for me, this is a raw deal for Boston & Beckett.
  11. Damn, tough choice: Von Freeman or the Cubbies? Not one I'd like to make! It looked pretty frosty in Chicago today. I think I'd take indoors, drinking a beer, and listening to Freeman, myself.
  12. Man!! And I just watched his game against the Yankee's on MLB Network's Classic Games this weekend. Sad week for baseball.
  13. Oh come on Beckett was not throwing at him i agree with what Dan said. I think the ump was probably saying that the timeout was too late ...In fact they give out waaaay too many time outs tell the batter to get in the box and stay there till they throw the pitch. Also Abreu didn't move usually the batter backs up far from the plate after calling time out. The batter doesn't back away until the ump grants the time out. We're talking about a matter of probably one second between the time the TO was called and the delivery of the pitch. Well you have never seen Julio Lugo call time out he practically runs out of the batters box into the visitors dugout while calling for a timeout !!!!!! Well, Lugo, he should run. I haven't read anything about Beckett being suspended, which is no way warranted, heck this would be a very minor matter if it wasn't for all the ejections. But, you never know, Beckett isn't one of the most popular players in the game -- he's taking over for Curt Schilling in more ways then one.
  14. Sorry, not buying it in the least Looking at what happened, it probably would not have any gotten bigger if the home plate umpire would have handled it better, he seems to have been caught by surprise by everything. Tori Hunter was saying that what got him pissed-off on the field was stuff that the ump was saying. Hummmmmm... that's interesting, I wonder if we'll ever find out what was said.
  15. What in the world was Josh Beckett thinking yesterday? Throwing the ball at Abrau's head like that? I'm surprised by such a classless move by Beckett, he's better than that.
  16. Mariners win a nail biter, 1-0, and Eric Bedard, get this, goes eight innings -- amazing. Your First Place Seattle Mariners.
  17. I was able to buy Extra Innings for the first time this year, and it's been great. The team I follow are the Mariners, I mean the division leading Mariners, and it is very good when it comes to following out of town favorites. For some reason, I've lost any feeling I ever had for the Dodgers, just don't care for them anymore, their games rank way below Seattle's.
  18. Sorry for the passing of your mother. It is amazing at times the lack of support and help some hospital workers are during difficult times.
  19. The update from ESPN: SAN DIEGO -- San Francisco Giants pitcher Joe Martinez has a concussion and three small fractures in his head after being hit by a line drive. The rookie reliever was stable and alert in a San Francisco hospital Friday, and the Giants said the right-hander was expected to make a full recovery. Martinez will remain hospitalized for observation over the next three or four days. Martinez was struck by Mike Cameron's line drive on Thursday night, and sustained hairline fractures on the right side of his face. The accident occurred with two outs in the ninth inning of the Giants' 7-1 win over Milwaukee. The Giants put Martinez on the 15-day disabled list and purchased the contract of right-hander Justin Miller from the minors. That was a scary hit he took...
  20. I might give the Club Nokia a shot, I have no idea where it's at though. When I saw them in Seattle on the last tour, they were amazing. PS: Just Googled it, and it's right next door to Staples Arena.
  21. Crap! Joe Martinez of the Giants took a line drive right in the head! I hope he's okay, he walked off, but he was bleeding big time from head and nose.
  22. Drinking this one today, watching some baseball. I like this a lot also.
  23. Watching the Giant game: 16:9 HDTV is not Prince Fielder's friend!
