  1. I'm not a big C & W fan by any means, but I do have the Ray Price Bear Box Set -- he's that good.
  2. Sort of off topic, but I was doing some research on Glenn Miller, and I came across the menu from the Glen Island Casino -- I love the prices for the booze! The dinner menu isn't too bad either...
  3. is this organic? is the Midnight Chocolate made with dark chocolate? I love chocolate milk. I do too! More information!
  4. I'm reading the Glenn Miller biography by George T. Simon, and I come across this interesting paragraph that has the comments of Bill Finegan: Finegan found that Miller's organized, corporate-executive approach also pervaded music itself: "He like to work out things mathematically, especially his harmonic sequences. I'd figure out my own without using math, and then he couldn't wait to get to a piano to see how my sequences worked out mathematically. He always kept touting the Schillinger method of arranging, which used the mathematical approach, and I always kept rejecting it. I felt math shound not be the instigator of music. But this organized method suited him perfectly. It was a practical rather than an idealistic approach to music, which is exactly what his band was all about, too." Is the "Schillinger mathematical approach" still used in arranging? If so, who uses that method? It's not an earthshaking matter, but interesting none-the-less.

    Ruby Braff

Am I the only one the really enjoys Ruby Braff & His New England Sounghounds vol. 1 & 2? Both volumes are very enjoyable and Scott Hamilton plays very good on these cds. I highly recommend them.
  6. Lon: You inspired me to listen to: The Complete Glenn Miller and His Orchestra (1938-1942) Disk two. I love this box set, and I bought it off Ebay for $36.00, my best Ebay buy ever.
  7. Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band. Disk two. I always find it interesting that Shaw & Goodman are considered real jazz, yet a lot of critics and jazz fans turn their noses up at the Miller bands. It terms of popular Big Band music, Miller's Army Air Force Band is about as good as you're going to get -- great arrangements, quality playing, focused on "popular music." It's unfortunate, Goodman's band played worse crap, looking for that hit, than Miller, same with Shaw's band, but they get a pass and Miller doesn't. I won't be holding my breath on a Miller Mosaic.
  8. Wow, that's what I've been calling Papelbomb for a couple of years now, but that's the way it is with hot shit firemen who aren't on your team. They're hard to tolertate. But when you start calling your own guy that...well see ya next year then. Meanwhile M's win in the 9th! It was a good win for the Mariners, Ichiro hitting a curve ball that's about an inch off the ground, and just getting over the infield. If I'm Toronto, I'm pissed losing that way.
  9. Has nothing to do with free equipment a certain person gets...
  10. Last Days of May used to get stuck in mine occasionally. Love both versions from On Your Feet or on Your Knees, which is a very cool live album.
  11. Giants aren't much better 3-7 in the last 10 games and sinking like a rock in a lake in the NL West/Wildcard race. Grrrrrr At least Cain, Lincecum, and Panda are still doing good. Seattle looks like it's starting to come back down to earth, they're getting pounded since the all-star break.
  12. Heaven's above, we're on a street called love, but the Mets are in complete shambles right now, it's like a novela that you see on Univision or something.
  13. Well, Soulstation 1, must be happy, Cleveland absolutely crushed the Mariners over the weekend, left the moose as roadkill.
  14. This is a good point. I, myself, feel overwhelmed by all the media I have in my daily life, cell-phone, computer, incessant noise everywhere, it really is getting to be too much. I find that I'm going more and more for quietness, of not wanting to add any more noise to my life. Because of this feeling, outside of Grateful Dead releases, I have not bought any other music for two years, and now that I have XM radio, I don't even have that Grateful Dead urge in me. It's a major issue for me right now, how much media do I really want in my life?
  15. The Office (USA). Season four. Creed is hilarious, showing up at work with his hair black from putting ink toner on it. The show would be so much better if they stayed with a half-hour format.
  16. The Rockford Files is about as good as it gets. I don't know why I enjoy these 70s detective shows so much. Could be that I grew up with them, or the great production values some of the have, the cool guest stars, nice scripts, a slower pace, nice theme music, less bloodletting than you have today, whatever it is, I find I get great entertainment value in all these shows.
  17. Dan, come on bro, step back from the ledge! I only wished my teams that I've followed over the years had anything close to the success that Boston's enjoyed. Welcome to the slums of mediocre baseball where most of us have lived for years, and years, and years, and years.....
  18. The Rockford Files. Season one: It doesn't matter, Rockford Files, Columbo, Mannix, McMillian & Wife, McCloud, Ironside, I love 1970s tv detective shows!
  19. I hate the Yankees, but dang, are they ever playing some good baseball now.
  20. The Big Bang Theory: Season one. Discovered this sitcom by watching some episodes on airplanes.
  21. X Files: Season one. Watched the first two episodes, and it's not too bad of a start for the series.
  22. I'm dying in the freaking heat! 108 today. I hate the summer, winter can't get here fast enough.
  23. I had an overnight lay-over in London Friday, and I wound up watching this for about four hours, it was memorizing stuff! and I didn't even know what was going on. However, as time went on, I could really see the skill that was involved, and there was this one English hurler that was having a great day, and that was exciting to watch. I can see why people get passionate about cricket.
  24. I'm very interested in these cds, as I've had a off-and-on interest in King Crimson over the years. I am embarrassed say though, I have never understood all the raves about Red, I don't get that album at all.
  25. Brian Eno: Deep Blue Ocean. A beautiful piece of music.
