  1. Oh frick-on-a-stick, a discussion on whether pitching after "only" three days rest will kill these Yankee pitchers, geesh, that sould be normal amount of time. I say: go back to the four man rotation.
  2. That is a good commentary, I think that Genesis and Ezekiel are two of the strangest books in the Old Testament -- sometimes I read them and I don't understand a thing, others, it's a life enhancing experience.
  3. Useless Bud has decided that the camera needs to be moved back -- fool! I cannot even begin to describe my disgust over baseball in November, cameras hanging over the field of play, inter-league play, down right crappy umpiring, World Series games played in terrible weather, and most of all, my complete, total, unremitting, disgust with one Commissioner of Baseball: Bud Selig.
  4. Just going off one mono cd, but I was not blown away by the improvement. I'm going to have to wait and listen to the monos a lot more.
  5. I haven't been able to watch one game yet, I'm not too unhappy about that because I just cannot stand the thought of the Yankees buying a Championship this year -- ever and always, to heck with the Yankees!
  6. Just starting to work my way through the mono box, listened to Please Please Me a couple of times and I like the sound very much -- it'll be interesting to hear what the other albums sound like.
  7. Been traveling a lot, still more to go, but the book I've brought with me is the Library of America edition of F. Scott Fitzgerald: Novel and Short Stories 1920 - 1922. I was much more impressed with This Side of Paradise this time, it just struck me in a more powerful manner than the last time I read the book. Flappers and Philospohers -- meh, I could take it or leave it. Getting ready to reread The Beautiful and Damned, which, the last time I read it, I thought was one of the most amoral books by an American writer that I ever held in my hands.
  8. Thanks everyone, for the birthday wishes. I was in meetings until 8:00 p.m. -- there are better ways to celebrate birthdays! A busy travel schedule will keep me from posting too much for another month or so, but that's life. On the plus side, when I get back home, the Beatles mono box will be waiting for me.
  9. Good news from Amazon, they say my mono box should be mailed next week. That will give me something to look forward to coming home to next Saturday!
  10. I think whoever wins the Angles vs. Yankee series, will win it all. That's going to be a great series.
  11. Denver weather: 29!! Who came up with the idea of playing a game @ 8:00 p.m.? Brilliant.
  12. Weather in Denver: 34. Thank you Bud. Just retire already.
  13. Respectfully, I do not feel that this is accurate. While these albums largely helped to usher in the counter culture, there was a perception at the time that the Beatles had hit their peak, and there was even speculation after Revolver that they may split up. Rubber Soul and Revolver may have become legendary in retrospect, but at the time, each was largely viewed as another Beatles album. The notion that rock could be "art" was still a year or two away. There is a fascinating piece in the London Times Sunday supplement from September, 1966 that really provides a sense of how the Beatles were perceived at that time. Is the LT supplement on the web? I can't seem to find it. That would be interesting to read.
  14. That's the thing about baseball -- you can't run out the clock.
  15. There's so much revisionist history with involving them that it's hard to tell. Based on the number of clunky edits and mistakes on their 1963 recordings, I think it's safe to assume that they weren't taken too seriously prior to 1964, at least. Think I read where the Beatles themselves thought that they had a run of three years, and after that, it was downhill. I think here is where Rubber Soul takes on great importance. Here is where the Beatles realized that with this album, they positioned themselves for the future, and now as the "voice of a generation," they actually had a future that was without precedent in the history of Rock. 1966 is the year that everyone realized that the Beatles were different, and that the future had tremendous possibilities. PS: Geesh! I think I used the word future more than enough! Sorry...
  16. Hey! Jon Abbey looking at the baseball thread -- I've been wondering about where you've been, I miss your posts on music.
  17. I don't get the hate either (I understand Yankee hate though), this Dodger team is very low-key and doesn't make too many waves. Of course, I grew up on the Dodgers in San Diego, even made the pilgrimage to Dodger Stadium on many occasions. Still, it is good to see them back up on top -- who knows, it looks like it might turn into an I5 Series. You must be very young claim to you don't understand the hate, Matthew. Only the Dodger fan youngsters [and a few jealous A's baseball fans] don't get it. Giants fans from birth understand. Maybe it's pretend denial....I won't speculate. But when I'm at ATT Park and those drunken Dodger fan bastards spew their verbal arrogance it speaks volumes for us Giants fans about how much we hate those fucking Dodgers. Do the research. This rivarlry spans over 100 years. Oh, I know all about the history. I was a tremendous baseball nerd, reading all the books, getting to know the history, especially about the Dodgers. The Dodgers were "my team" for many years, it just seemed as if something was lost when the O'Malley's left the ownership. In fact, the only World Series game I ever attended was game three of the 1988 series, where Mark McGwire hit the homer off Jay Howell to win the game. Got to the games because of friend of mine knew Rick Dempsey at Crespsi High in L.A., who got us the tickets, but made us pay for them -- the cheapskate! First major league game I went to was a 1969 Padres / Dodger game where Willie Davis had is thirty game hitting streak ended. I guess being on the outside in San Diego, I never developed that appropriate Giant hatred, in fact, the Giants were the team I followed when I studied in Berkeley. Giants fans are no shrinking violets at games, you know, just ask Reggie Smith & Tommy Lasorda!

  19. That was the best Smoltz looked all year. The Cardinals were dead the moment that Holliday dropped that line drive.
  20. Oh no, the kiss of death -- Dick Stockton is talking about seeing the Cardinals in Jupiter, FL next year. Party's over St. Louis.
  21. Thanks for the tip.
  22. Looks like the Dodgers will be flying home tonight.
  23. Thanks for boring us, great story, must of been a shock to find yourself in the midst of all that. Webcam shot of the Abby Road crossing that on 24/7. Can you post your pictures?
  24. Crazy question: Watching ESPN 360, they have started to play a particular piece of music, solo electric guitar, as a commercial bumper. Does anyone have any idea of where it comes from?
  25. I just despair over the lack of judgment by MLB at times. It was good that they canceled today's game in Denver, then they reschedule it for 8:05 p.m. Denver time? What the heck, 8:00 p.m. in Denver? Oh, that will be some quality baseball we'll be seeing.
