  1. There's so much revisionist history with involving them that it's hard to tell. Based on the number of clunky edits and mistakes on their 1963 recordings, I think it's safe to assume that they weren't taken too seriously prior to 1964, at least. Think I read where the Beatles themselves thought that they had a run of three years, and after that, it was downhill. I think here is where Rubber Soul takes on great importance. Here is where the Beatles realized that with this album, they positioned themselves for the future, and now as the "voice of a generation," they actually had a future that was without precedent in the history of Rock. 1966 is the year that everyone realized that the Beatles were different, and that the future had tremendous possibilities. PS: Geesh! I think I used the word future more than enough! Sorry...
  2. Hey! Jon Abbey looking at the baseball thread -- I've been wondering about where you've been, I miss your posts on music.
  3. I don't get the hate either (I understand Yankee hate though), this Dodger team is very low-key and doesn't make too many waves. Of course, I grew up on the Dodgers in San Diego, even made the pilgrimage to Dodger Stadium on many occasions. Still, it is good to see them back up on top -- who knows, it looks like it might turn into an I5 Series. You must be very young claim to you don't understand the hate, Matthew. Only the Dodger fan youngsters [and a few jealous A's baseball fans] don't get it. Giants fans from birth understand. Maybe it's pretend denial....I won't speculate. But when I'm at ATT Park and those drunken Dodger fan bastards spew their verbal arrogance it speaks volumes for us Giants fans about how much we hate those fucking Dodgers. Do the research. This rivarlry spans over 100 years. Oh, I know all about the history. I was a tremendous baseball nerd, reading all the books, getting to know the history, especially about the Dodgers. The Dodgers were "my team" for many years, it just seemed as if something was lost when the O'Malley's left the ownership. In fact, the only World Series game I ever attended was game three of the 1988 series, where Mark McGwire hit the homer off Jay Howell to win the game. Got to the games because of friend of mine knew Rick Dempsey at Crespsi High in L.A., who got us the tickets, but made us pay for them -- the cheapskate! First major league game I went to was a 1969 Padres / Dodger game where Willie Davis had is thirty game hitting streak ended. I guess being on the outside in San Diego, I never developed that appropriate Giant hatred, in fact, the Giants were the team I followed when I studied in Berkeley. Giants fans are no shrinking violets at games, you know, just ask Reggie Smith & Tommy Lasorda!

  5. That was the best Smoltz looked all year. The Cardinals were dead the moment that Holliday dropped that line drive.
  6. Oh no, the kiss of death -- Dick Stockton is talking about seeing the Cardinals in Jupiter, FL next year. Party's over St. Louis.
  7. Looks like the Dodgers will be flying home tonight.
  8. Thanks for boring us, great story, must of been a shock to find yourself in the midst of all that. Webcam shot of the Abby Road crossing that on 24/7. Can you post your pictures?
  9. Crazy question: Watching ESPN 360, they have started to play a particular piece of music, solo electric guitar, as a commercial bumper. Does anyone have any idea of where it comes from?
  10. I just despair over the lack of judgment by MLB at times. It was good that they canceled today's game in Denver, then they reschedule it for 8:05 p.m. Denver time? What the heck, 8:00 p.m. in Denver? Oh, that will be some quality baseball we'll be seeing.
  11. Game's been postponed. Who knows when they'll be able to play it. Can you imagine what it's going to be like if the Rockies actually make the World Series, or even advance in the playoffs?
  12. Baseball has no to blame on the completely terrible umpiring but themselves. Anyone who has seen Chuck Meriwether work behind the plate knows how incredibly, absolutely, totally, crappy he his. I could write chapter-and-verse on this just from Mariner games. Lord, he has no strike zone, and the least you can say is that he's awful for both teams, which for an umpire, is not a good thing to say. Some of the calls this season and in the play-off are beyond the usual "everyone makes mistakes" category, to verging on outright incompetence. And to think, the NBA is worse in the regard than MLB. You would think Meriwether would not be allowed within twenty miles of a play-off game.
  13. Great you were at the game, it's fantastic being at a game that will be remembered for years to come. No doubt that the Twins lost that game on their own last night, geesh, bases loaded, then two pitches and two outs! What ever happened about being patient and putting the pressure on the pitcher? Come guys, at least take the first pitch. Anyway, like a good team, which the Yankees are (though I even hate to admit that) they made the Twins pay for their mistake. Frustrating game to say the least.
  14. Hey, when you're though, give us a report on how this is... Please....I'll say something nice about the Yankees if you do.
  15. Believe me, I will never, ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever ever, ever, ever EVER BE A YANKEE FAN!!! (Just a tad over the top, I know )
  16. Stupid batting, swinging at the first pitch. That's it, Yankees will win after the Twins blew that chance.
  17. Now Hans knows why we all hate the Yankees, every stupid break and call goes for them. Take note Hans, take note.
  18. I can't believe what I just saw! How could Gardner be that far off with one out? Then to be running on contact? What a putz, but I like it.
  19. Nathan has completely lost his mind and composure.
  20. Nice, newly found footage of Babe Ruth. Story and film here.
