  1. I can hear Suzyn Waldman now: "Damon is a YANKEE! Damon is a YANKEE! Damon is a YANKEE!" all the while sobbing tears of joy.
  2. First of all -- I couldn't happen to a nicer player and team! I love how the Yankees all of a sudden are Mr. Responsible when it comes to spending money. The Yankees 2009 payroll was 208,097,414, and 2010 is looking like 207,000,000. So, the Yankees are telling us they can't make the payroll 214 million? Bullstuff! Coming off a World Championship, the money has to be poring in at this point, and attendance most likely will increase, because they didn't sell out the New Yankee Stadium all that much. Call me crazy, but I still think on Opening Day Damon will be trotting out of the Yankee dugout, they need each too much at this point. They can easily dump Winn with no problems. Well, anyway, this Yankee hater is again saying that they might not even make the playoffs this year (please, please, please!). They are getting old, their outfield looks weak, and I don't think their pitching is all the great either. I dream of a Yankee collapse this year
  3. Yeah, Damon is toast. No way the Yankees can have Winn, Swisher, and Damon. If I'm a Yankee fan, I'm not too thrilled with my outfield right now. Gardner/Winn in left, Granderson in center, and Swisher in right? *Yawn*
  4. Nothing makes me feel more practical then putting together a bookshelf, even though I had to retrace my steps sometimes...
  5. Date: October 21, 1975 Place: Fenway Park, Boston Game six: Cincinnati Reds vs. Boston Red Sox I wonder if this is a good game?
  6. There is a lot of wonderful music on this cd, with Marsh especially being in great form. At first listen, I was very casual, then as the music went on, I had to pay attention because Marsh is playing so good, and so intense, yet it's a relaxed intensity. Ideas flowing out of him solo after solo, without repeating lines or falling into cliches, but very inventive with a wonderful tone. Great music at a great price.
  7. Interesting that Glover's time at Gethsemane Abby coincide with the years that Thomas Merton was there. I wonder if there is a reference to Glover in Merton's journals...
  8. Honestly, I do try to fool around and get the answer on my own, but I cannot figure this one out. I search for something, but I only get the first 200 posts on the subject, and I cannot figure out how to get beyond that amount. Is there a way to search a topic from day one of the board?
  9. Air -- Air Time Warne Marsh -- All Music Roscoe Mitchell -- Nonaah Roscoe Mitchell -- Snurdy McGurdy and Her Dancin' Shoes Charles Tyler Ensemble -- Saga Of The Outlaws Anthony Braxton / Georg Graw -- Duo (Amsterdam) 1991
  10. Warne Marsh: Ne Plus Ultra. Plus I'm getting an order ready for the Nessa Juggernaut.
  11. Interesting item: Lennie Tristano with Warne Marsh and Lee Konitz. Video isn't that great, but it made my day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NOysSYUDyQ
  12. :tup :tup What album was this??? Inquiring minds need to know!
  13. Amazon has it also. That's where I got my copy, and it's four disks of wonderful music.
  14. Mariners sign Felix Hernandez to multi-year deal. Great move by the Mariners, which ensures at least one of the Hernandez/Lee duo will stay longer than this season. I wonder if the Mariners are thinking of also signing Lee up, which would be major money tied up in two players. Next month spring training opens...
  15. Amazingly and jaw-dropping enough, Amazon France emailed my this reply three hours after my email this morning: Needless to say, I passed on the tempting offer of 20 euros, and emailed back that I wanted a replacement set. The more I thought about, the more I realized that with the cost of this set, that I should expect and good, new version of this set. It looks like all's well that ends well.
  16. It might just be because Sony sucks (and not Amazon). In the past 10 years, whenever they screwed up (root kits; CD errors, shoddy quality control, etc.), they also screwed up whatever they set up to fix the original screw-up. A screw-up of the screw-up, actually. Still, customers jump for joy (!) and fall over themselves every single time they get shafted and Sony is "nice enough" (usually only after a minimum of several thousand customers complained very publicly online) to fix whatever problem they produced in the first place ... weeks and months later. If you check online how erratic their customer service has been in this case (again), it is absolutely beyond me how customers can actually place any trust in whatever that cruddy outfit does or says. I've sent emails and receipt information to both Sony and AmazonFR. We'll see what happens. PS: I was keeping my extra Christmas money for the Trumpet Case release, but seeing what's going on with this Complete case, well, I'm gun-shy right now about Sony.
  17. I'll go ahead and send Sony a email with my receipt, then hope for the best.
  18. Anyone knows if they just send the box not the cds? I would like a new box, but no cds. I won't die if I don't get one, but still, even though I have minor damage, I still want to get one if possible. You can see that it's just two small splits that I taped over.
  19. Some of those look really nice, and at bargain prices.
  20. Indeed. And there's a lovely version on Santana's album of the same name. There's a bunch of great ballads by Coltrane from that era - 'Dear Lord', 'After the Rain', 'Alabama', 'Soul Eyes'. That's the thing about Coltrane (or any other great musicians for that matter), is that there is so much there, you never get there, if you know what I mean...
  21. Coltrane's Welcome: off Kula Se Mama. Such a beautiful song.
  22. Thanks, I was following the conversation on the Ladnier book, but I never made the connection, the reference went over my head, way over
  23. You should not say things like this, I have been fighting off the temptation of buying this for over a month. I've been fighting off the temptation ever since it first came out! I know what you mean, but lately I've really been into Coltrane and this book keeps beckoning to me.... Allen, what book are you talking about?
